YaYa's Funky Hat

YaYa scooped this furry Mad Hatter design from her maternal Grandma's closet and has worn it almost every day for weeks now.

Fetching hat, which looks darling on Yaya.

Language lesson from a cranky wordophile: funky has been mis-appropriated by people on the fringe of things who want to be in or hep without truly understanding the culture from which they are stealing. Funk was originally the smell of unwashed body, more specifically unwashed post-coital smell. Ergo, funky meant noisome and by extension, redolent of bawdy houses and other low dives. Somehow, as in the transformation of bad to mean excellent, and jazz, which also has sexual connotations in its past, funky somehow has come to mean exciting and fun.
