In today's paper

I'm in today's Green Sheet (in the Journal-Sentinel) They chopped it up but they did give me a nice little blurb at the end. Pick up a copy please.

An upcoming column

Fair warning: it appears a column I wrote, or part of it, will be appearing in the Green Sheet of this Thursday's Journal-Sentinel. I say part of one because I really don't know what they're running, as the email said it would probably be trimmed for space and appear as part of a package. So, for all I know a tweet sized chunk may see print. Whatever. Buy a paper anyway; consider it payment for all the entertainment I provide you here free of charge. :)

Another column

Yesterday the Journal called me on my break at work (sweet timing, since I would never have checked my voice mail) and asked me to get them a Paul Ryan piece by the end of the day. Done. The best part? I got paid to bash Nickelback in a national newspaper. Sa-weet! It's running in tomorrow's Journal-Sentinel.

Lance Armstrong

I'll have a column on Lance Armstrong running in the Journal-Sentinel later this week.

Well well

Tsk tsk. A state worker sent me an email blasting my column
*from her state email address *, presumably on work time. I then received two automated email notices from a state address indicating her attempts to abort the message, apparently ixnayed either by her side or by gmail. Thanks for spending tax payer $ to write a personal response to a community columnist in Milwaukee. Great way to back up your email claiming the reforms weren't needed.

Reader Reaction

Surprisingly, in lieu of the expected hate mail, my in-box has been swamped by well-wishers ranging from ex-teachers to bank vp's (gasp! A One Percent'er!). I've gotten more venom thrown at me when I wrote a column about the Hoan Bridge - I kid you not.

The Journal-Sentinel has officially asked me to stay on for a 5th year as a community columnist. I'm not *unhappy* about it, but I'm long past the point of being awed/excited about the news.

Whoa - big news: I wrote a piece about Romney, but instead of sending it to the Journal-Sentinel I decided it was time to be bold and try to get my name better known around the state. I submitted it to two newspapers. Today, the response: both(!) wish to print it, and the editor of one *will contact the other* to see who gets dibs. Hot dog!

Update: The Waukesha Freeman has told me they'll be printing my column tomorrow *if* the smaller paper agreed to hold off running it until after the Freeman published. That was still up in the air as of a couple of hours ago, so . . . I may be in the Freeman tomorrow. Or not. Take a look in the morning and let me know one way or the other.

Today's paper featured a letter to the editor defending my recent column.

The Journal-Sentinel just asked me to do an extended column for publication on Christmas Day. Quoting the email from the editor: "You seem to have a knack for writing holiday columns with just the right feel." Flattered and all, blah blah, but mighty sick of being good enough to be sought out for publication and yet never considered for regular work.

My Day

Work bit ass. Went to tailor shop afterwards, tried on some threads. Looked smashing. Par for the course. Came home, wrote and submitted JS column, it may run Tues. Wrote it intending to stir up some schtuff, so less than 50 JSonline comments will mark it as a failure.

Amanda Knox

Amanda Knox wins appeal, judge orders release . .

Meanwhile, closer to home, the column I wrote Friday will/should be published in Tuesday's Journal-Sentinel. Please buy a copy, or at the very least link to/tweet/FB/comment on the published piece on jsonline.

Look for me this Sunday

The Journal-Sentinel is going to publish a column I wrote about the 10th anniversary of 9/11. It'll be published in the Sunday edition of 9-11-11, the first time my writing will appear in the hallowed Sunday 'Crossroads' section.

Update

The CEO of Discovery World sent me an email inviting me to spend a 1/2  hr with him at the museum, discussing various programs to benefit low income families. In the email he mentions he's prepared a letter to the JS editor to refute *another* letter to the editor about my column. I think it's that letter, which propped up Betty Brinn at DW's expense, that has got him worried about PR. Nice of him tho', either way.
