Ad Astra

I saw this movie Sunday night and I left the theater in awe. The Heart of Darkness set in a realistic space industry of the near future, it is visually stunning, intellectually engaging, and not without some horror and action along the way. And Brad Pitt's performance: WOW.

A Mammoth Disappointment

I'm majorly disappointed with Open Doors Milwaukee. Smiley, Junie, and I went to Central library downtown, where we were handed a flyer detailing the tour . . . then told sorry, there are no tours offered today. Maybe 30 people wandered the lobby  bewildered and directionless. We then walked in the rain to the museum across the street, which someone said was part of the event; nope. So we lingered in the lobby there and, granted, had a hoot looking at the mammoth skeleton. But overall? Boo!

A Little Zep Humor

Lisa: You can't do that.

Me: Why not?

Lisa: There's a sign on the wall right there.

Me: There's a sign on the wall. But I want to be sure, because you know sometimes words have two meanings.

Lisa (long pause): What??

Sketchy

The  White House "whistleblower' has allegedly been ID'd as Ned Price, a CIA officer who once published an anti-Trump op-ed in the Washington Post, and who admits he didn't actually hear the call to the Ukrainian President. Hmm. Seems like just the kind of objective, informed source with which to destroy a Republic in the name of political gain.

A Coyote in the Neighborhood

A text received a minute ago from Junie . The important issue for me was not her safety or well-being, but rather if she got a pic for social media. Alas,  she failed and this will have to do. #KidsUgh  #TryHarderNextTime.

A Poll Answer

The Comic Book Convention at State Fair Park

1st: great seeing Alex Q and Patrick M

2nd: it was legitimately hard labor to search through each of these boxes. Well, by 1st world standards, but hard labor all the same.

The good news? I found scads of what I needed, and most issues were only 50 cents!

The bad news: there were a LOT of issues.

Ke$ha

had an amazing time at the kesha concert! we literally had front row seats!  - YaYa

A Problem at Pantherfest

This guy - perhaps an employee of the venue or artist - refused to accommodate a visibly disabled student at Pantherfest, in the process referring to her as a "cripple."  I'm told the UWM police are now involved.

New to Me

I did not know this.

At the Lake with Smiley

After visiting YaYa in her dorm and dining in the cafeteria, Smiley wanted to go for a hike at the lakefront (well, a hike in my out of shape opinion; more a leisurely walk). The weather was warm but held the threat of rain, and Lake Michigan itself appeared agitated. It was a nice evening with my Odds (1st and 3rd born.)
