An Update

My hip felt great for days, and in the absence of the pain I bust a$$ - two bike rides yesterday, including a long one with OJ, and I tackled starting to clean out the basement - but now the hip is killing me. I'll probably be crippled up for the start of my work week. Swell.

update: As predicted, the pain in the hip is intense and controlling my day. I wanted to go to the movies but don't think I can handle two hours in one spot. IDC. I'd rather climb the hill at Sheridan, ride my bike, and do whatever I like when the hip is good than live in fear of the mess it creates.

The Holy Family Medal

Last week I bought Lisa a new bike and so now Team Slap can properly follow my evacuation plan when the zombie apocalypse arrives. Today our trip was more sedate, journeying with Smiley to a local Catholic store to pick out a Father's Day gift. I wanted a St Joseph medal, as I was born on his feast day and he's the patron saint of fathers. Alas, some were sold out and the rest too pricey, so instead I picked out a medallion of the Holy Family. Great gift guys!

Amiley biked down to the library my himself and had his bag tear and the books scatter across the road. He handled it like a boss, no help from us. Good man (in training).

A Lucky Day

Took a bike ride with Dan, not one rain drop. Went into Store, did a lil shopping. Came out and noticed it rained while in store but again, not a drop on ride home. Get inside, less the five minutes later the skies open up for a pour....I think I might buy a scratch off, luck is on my side today! 💚 - Lisa

Our Day

We're down one car (more on that later) and with appointments all over town this morning I biked to one, Lisa headed to Brookfield for another, and I sent the two youngest to swim class on their bikes. I came home to find PD and LK salty as heck. Apparently our calendar was wrong and there was no class and they were locked out of the house. They called grandma to come unlock the door but I got home in time. Hardly a tragedy. But what was is that a baby bird fell to its death in our yard. I buried him with honors. 

 By the way, if you are 300 pounds and have a bad hip, I strongly suggest you do not bike 2 miles uphill to an appointment unless you have ample time to do so. I made it in time, but I will pay for it shortly

I ran errands on our bikes with the kids. If the destination is less than a half mile away, bike or walk. That's how you "save" a planet and get in shape(ish). Helpful hint: if you have a bum hip, get on/off the bike by swinging the *healthy* one. That minimizes the tears later.

 I biked with the kids to school this morning - on FEBRUARY 22nd. Wow.

The First Bike Ride of the Year!

Smiley and I took the first Team Slap bike ride of 2017 today - on February 20th!!! - biking to and from my mother-in-law's apartment,a round trip of 4.4 miles. Alas, she wasn't home! Lol. A great ride to kick off the year!

The hip is hurting a bit from the bike ride, but it's totally worth it. Today was a good day.

A Bike Ride with Lu

Maybe it was all the news out of Dallas, maybe it was my schedule, maybe it was the dupa that turned off the central air while I slept and left me to marinate in my own sweat, but I've been nursing a hangover-like headache all day.

Still have that headache, but it's a gorgeous day and LuLu seems to have enjoyed spending it with me, so the two of us hopped on our bikes and rode a few miles. Now I have a headache AND my hip hurts, but dangit it was fun. Thanks Lu!

Ouch

Yesterday, after cutting the lawn, I went for a bike ride with LK and about two blocks from the store my hip went crazy. I made it to the store but for the first time had to call Lisa to come give me a ride home (good bit: Lisa biked home with LK on my bike). Tonight I woke up after two hours of sleep with my hip again acting wonky. Especially considering how mild the accident seemed, this injury is ridiculous. #ugh

Brake Fix

Smiley and I fixed the brakes on his bike. It was definitely not a "fix on the spot" kind of a thing, so we did the right thing by jettisoning the parade. God bless the bike tool kit I bought last month, it really helps to have just the right tool for the just the right problem. Unfortunately, we fixed it so we could take a ride to go pay the electric and cable bills, but the skies broke open and we got drenched. So it looks like it'll be a car ride instead. :(

A Bike Trip with Junie

Took advantage of the break between storms to take a bike trip to the grocery store with Junie. She pooped out on the way there but recovered nicely at the store and the ride home was smooth. But the wind was a b***h.

Today went to heck in a hand basket fast, but before it did I had the pleasure of taking PD, LK, and LK's friend on a 2.8 mile bike ride to the bank, followed by a short ride to the park afterwards.

I took a second ride with Smiley before dinner, a longer one than in the afternoon. I'm pretty darn tired.

Yesterday was LuLu's birthday party, and if some people (cough Mindy cough) get me the pictures they took I'll post about it here. 

Anyhow, since Smiley got his cast off Friday, and is now only confined by a futuristic ankle brace, he joined me after the party on a bike ride to the store and to pick up dinner. The loosely followed rule around here: if it's under three miles round trip and the weather is good, we bike to get there.

Another day, another bike ride with LK, this one the standard 2.2 mile run to the grocery store. Later, the three youngest kids went to Chill on the Hill together.
