Sawyer at the Salon
Back on the 8th Smiley and I took the dogs to a salon on KK to have their nails trimmed. Alas, aside from the copious amounts of hair they left in my car, only one of the two behaved well enough to actually get their nails done. I'll let you guess which one (and it isn't this one).
At any rate, here are some pics Smiley took.
A few days later, Lulu took Sawyer to his usual salon where they successfully did the trimming.

Pawprints Keepsake
This is another of my Christmas presents, this one from Smiley. We did them late today, after I got back from my road trip with LuLu.
We anticipated Sawyer would struggle and fight to the point where it just wouldn't happen at all.
As it turns out he was super agreeable and it took two seconds, sooooo.. we look dumb for rushing it with a muddy paw. D'oh!
Huckleberry on the other hand DID fight and squirm and raise a moderate fuss so we made do with what we could get in the moment.
Then, without my permission, Smiley made a cast of both Kahuna and Benny's paws - even though this was MY Christmas gift and I didn't want someone else's kitty cat memorialized. Hrmph lol
It was a thoughtful gift Smiley. Thank you!

Road Trip Doggos
Seeing as they tagged along for the ride to work this morning, here are my doggos as they came to pick me up from work in LULu's car back on September 20th!

Da Doggos
The doggos. And the head of a broken broom inexplicably left on the floor. But whatever, look at the doggos.

In Which Petco fails us and loses my trust
So I decided to take Sawyer to get his rabies update a clinic at Petco, and brought Huckleberry along for a nail trim. Thankfully, Smiley agreed to go with, because otherwise I would have been soooo bleeped LOL
There are many lousy things to forget about the Covid years, but the protocol that was set up by vets to deal with it was something not only worth remembering but worth continuing into the present day. You'd call or text the vet from the parking lot when you arrived, but then wait in the car with your pet until it was your turn. If it was an end-of-life procedure, you could accompany your pet inside; if not, you handed off your pet and waited outside until they were done.
Easy peezy, no contact, no fuss.
Petco, on the other hand, chose to line up a bunch of dogs for this clinic, all strangers to one another, up one one aisle and down another. While you waited, hoping your dog didn't freak out on the dog ahead of him, or vice versa, you had to deal with idiotic parents that ALLOWED their kids to touch strange dogs without asking (and even asked to pose for a picture with them - this was the PARENT asking mind you!), and heat, and impatience, and dogs reacting to the sounds of other dogs getting treated . . . what a mess.
Thankfully, Smiley took Huck to the groomer there for his nails, then kept him busy 95% of the time Sawyer and I waited. Quite unlike him, Sawyer was well behaved and chill, that is, until the vet got ahold of him.
From the jump the vet was nervous and skittish, and her fear wafted off her. Sawyer (again, not the norm) reacted without violence or misbehavior, merely trying to break free. Time and again the vet would dramatically drop the syringe on the floor and jump backwards like she was avoiding a striking cobra.
Wrong profession for you ma'am. Wrong profession.

I'm Huntin' Wabbits
This boi killed two rabbits today in our yard, hours apart. That's three this week. I'm not sure why they keep risking our yard, but I'm running out of bare soil patches to bury them.
Not that Huckleberry hasn't done his share of regulating wildlife. He killed a squirrel and a rabbit himself before Sawyer came along last year. But like Lisa says, Huckleberry is slow: if he can catch you, that's just Darwinism at work.

Vigilance
Yesterday Smiley sent me these photos of our doggos diligently protecting our homestead.
The dangerous subject they were watching? THIS guy:

The Forecast Was Snow Joke
Look, I'm not saying this is the storm of the century. So far, it's so mid that I think MPS jumped the gun by cancelling school (and to do so yesterday evening? Waaay too soon). Then again, I chose to work from home rather than commute, so who am I to talk?
But it's coming down, and coming down steady. It's a mid snow too, not airy but not completely wet and sticky.
Anyway, to stay ahead of the curve LuLu and I headed out to shovel and cleared the property, and our share of the alley, of the first couple inches of the mess.
Future efforts will be delegated to Dem, Smiley, Lisa, and Junie.
