Lopez-Ortiz
The ridiculous UD win by Teofima López against Jamaine López is yet another blight on the sport of boxing.
I scored the fight 115 to 113 for Ortiz, as did some sites I just checked. He outsmarted and frustrated López the whole fight. Two judges saw it 115-113 for López, and ESPN scored it a draw, so yes, it could have gone either way.
But it's impossible to explain a 117-111 score from the third judge. He was either asleep, a fool, or on the take, and none of those options do anything to restore faith in the sport.

Dinner with YaYa
This evening, after a long day at work and a trip down to East Troy pick up a Facebook Marketplace item, I went over to Yaya's apartment for dinner and a movie.
The place where we were going to get food was closed for the day, so I wound up at Papa Murphy's where I picked up a pizza for us to share. The place was packed, the preparation area was a mess, and the staff frazzled. As I waited there the cashier abruptly decided that no one from that point forward would be allowed to order pizza, which kind of defeats the purpose of a pizza restaurant. He also ran outside to confront an angry customer who stormed out, which is pretty bold considering said cashier weighed all of a hundred pounds soaking wet.
I do grow tired of so much drama and anger as life goes on. It seems to be growing more common too. Ugh.
Anyhow, we cooked up the pizza at YaYa's apartment and I must say, for once I got the timing just right. It was great.
Then we fired up Netflix and put on Big George Foreman, biographical film about the two-time heavyweight champion turned preacher and product pitchman.
The movie went through Foreman's life in a straight chronological order, and I'll admit that it had a pretty pedestrian script. At times you could have mistaken this for a good TV movie of the week - back when such things actually still existed.
That isn't to say that I didn't enjoy the movie. It was entertaining, even if you don't like boxing, and as I happen to love the sport I enjoyed it all the more. Foreman's life has all the ups and downs and crazy twists you need to keep a story going, even when the folks doing the telling stumble-bumble a bit in the execution.
I grade the film a B if you like boxing, a C+ if you don't.
Anyway, it was a genuinely fun and relaxing evening with my oldest and I appreciate the invite. Boo to my grandkitty Atticus tho, who acted put out by my presence lol

Mills Lane
Mills Lane, a Hall of Fame boxing referee, district judge, and television personality, has died at 85.
(You might remember him best for officiating the Tyson-Holyfield ear biting fiasco).

Usyk-Joshua 2
I sat down on my patio on this gorgeous August day, my two doggos underfoot, and watched the recent Uskyk-Joshua rematch for the heavyweight crown.
Here's how I scored it. Honestly, I think I was a bit generous in giving Joshua anything but the 8th and 9th rounds.
In real life, the official scorecards were 116-112 and 115-113 for the Ukrainian, and Glen Feldman, incredulously, scored it 115-113 for Joshua. That man either needs glasses or some professional ethics.
This fight will, however, be forever remembered not for the action in the ring, but for Anthony Joshua's childish reaction to losing. He tossed the belts out of the ring, told Usyk “You ain’t big, you ain’t skilled, you’re not strong, how did you beat me?”, then (apparently realizing how he much of a doofus he was being) he overcompensated with a long complimentary speech.
Cringe.
Now, will we see Usyk-Fury? I don't know, but it would be a doozy.

Mayweather - McGregor
Where are you watching the fight? I'm at Romaines, and the place has reached capacity and the doors are locked.
My fellow boxing fans are aghast at the hoopla over Mayweather-McGregor, calling it a farce, an exhibition, and a circus. It is, but they are missing the point. The world is watching. They are watching BOXING. Floyd is once again bringing the sport to the masses. The correct thing to say is "Thank you sir.
And yes, I think Mayweather will win. With luck, I hope he wins big enough to humiliate MMA and prove it a junk "sport." Maybe then MMA fans will realize that if they want to watch sweaty men in underwear roll around on top of each other, they should do it quietly on the web like the rest of us.
"Mayweather by TKO! 50-0 baby!
Floyd's camp said he planned to stop him in the ninth. They were off a round, but the plan was perfect: let him wear himself out early, then go hunting after the fifth.
I think he played with him and gave the crowd a show until he got down to business. He didn't spar the last month, allegedly due to injury, but that's unheard of in boxing. It shows a lack of concern to say the least.
It was a fun fight to watch, all in all.

Mayweather-McGregor: My Thoughts
40 years old. Coming off two years of retirement. Weighed less. Shorter reach . Naturally smaller man. Abandoned the technique that earned him 49 wins (shoulder roll, fighting off the back foot, being a defensive counter puncher)
Floyd was walking McGregor down for half of the fight. He took power punches to the head and face and barely blinked. Finished the fight with no visible damage.
But people still post "but good job McGregor made it 9 rounds" 🙄
Before the fight, "lolz Mayweather hasn't had a legit knockout in 10 years" 🙄
So basically one of the best guys in the MMA...in his prime..with all the natural advantages possible...got stopped by a slower, smaller 40 year old with brittle hands, no real ko power, and "a little head". 🙄
Yeah. Be proud
.😂

Mayweather v McGregor
Sure, it's crazy - the equivalent of the Patriots playing the best arena football team - but it's still boxing. And anytime you're in the ring one punch can change your night. I'll watch (hopefully). #TBE

GRRRRR
Originally I was miffed at FB for spoiling last weekend's fight card (my fault - I have a half dozen boxing sites on here) but since the kids, in their wisdom, deleted it to record yet another episode of "Dog with a Blog" and "Jessie" BEFORE i GOT TO WATCH THE FIGHT, I guess I should learn to embrace the spoilers. Thank Goodness the kids pay for the cable and the electricity, or I might feel put out.

Rocky Marciano
My step-mother in law just called to say she found an autograph of undefeated Heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano she'd like to give me! Great news, but now when I stop by it'll look like I did so only to profit from the visit - which just this once, might be true! lol thanks Louise

Monaghan/Conceicao and Tapia/Soro. During the first fight Murr from #ImpracticalJokers made an appearance holding a sign saying he hates boxing, no doubt a punishment for a future episode! Update: both fights were good but the headline was a beaut, ending with an upset TKO by Soro to take the belt.

For the record, today marks 50 years since Sonny Liston threw his second fight with Muhammed Ali, falling to the canvas courtesy of the infamous "phantom punch".

YaYa's taking some heat on Facebook for recognizing Floyd Mayweather's greatness, an opinion she developed by watching him fight, not because I'm a fan. Good on her! Keep preaching the truth girl!

Did I mention Mayweather won?
Last night I had a GREAT time with Alex Q and company, and hope to visit again soon. At the same time Lisa had a blast hanging with her stepsister Jane and her husband Dan.
Oh - and some guy named Mayweather won \. Just in case you hadn't heard. Lol

Mayweather v Pacquiao
It's about time this fight happened. And don't count me as some doofus that thought Floyd was waiting to "age out" Pacquiao - Mayweather's the elder of the two for Pete's sake!
I'm looking forward to this!
update: Floyd WINS! Judges score it 118-110. 116-112, 116-112. As I posted on Twitter BEFORE the announcement, I scored it 118-110. I know my boxing lol. #TMT #undefeated
