Rebel Moon: Part One

Very late on Boxing Day, as midnight neared, I went over to Yaya's apartment to watch a movie with her and her boyfriend. We chose Rebel  Moon.

A Zach Snyder science fiction film, it's the story of a farming community at the mercy of a diabolical empire. The farmers believe that if they recruit enough mercenaries they can thwart the empire and gain their independence.  How even an unlikely victory would stop the empire from coming back and Alderran-ing them is never explained to my satisfaction.

There's nothing original in the movie, as it's pretty clearly The Magnificent Seven meets Star Wars, but so what? Sometimes originality is overrated. It was fun, visually impressive, and had some decent action scenes. My main beef, honestly, was that Snyder once again dragged a movie out so long you start glancing at your watch.

I grade this one a solid B.

It's worth a watch on Netflix.

Boxing Day 2017

For TeamSlap's annual Boxing Day trip we drove 80 miles down to Barnaby's in Arlington Heights. I remember going to the Milwaukee location as a very small child and thinking the woman in the stained glass was attractive. They closed in MKE 35 years ago or more, so when I heard another location existed it went on the bucket list. The pizza today was great, the burger so-so, the fish fry gawd awful. Lots of fun tho. Afterwards, a spending trip at a IL Walmart. Happy Boxing Day!

Boxing Day 2016 Pt 2

After the hike our Boxing Day concluded with a nice dinner at Perkins!

Boxing Day 2016

For Boxing Day 2016 #TeamSlap drove down to Seven Bridges nature trail for a hike down to the beach. Why not, with temps in the 40's? Alas, the main trails were closed for the season, and we were limited to the slushy, wet paths along the bluff. Not everyone dressed appropriately and many a shoe was soaked - "I don't know what shoes *you're* wearing," I told the kids, bringing a '90's era inside joke with Ervin Roman into the 2010's. Anyway, I had a blast, and we'll be back in better weather.

Boxing Day 2015 - The Melting Pot

Every year we celebrate Boxing Day, establishing it as the day this family will celebrate together long after their own individual families carve up Christmas proper. This year however, a long planned trip to the Mall of America was nixed by my surgery. So instead, we rolled out to The Melting Pot for lunch. The kids were great, everyone had fun, and aside from the hip acting up a couple times, there wasn't a bad moment in the bunch. Thanks #TeamSlap! I love you all!
