Smiley got into MHSA!

Smiley is now enrolled at Milwaukee H.S. of the Arts as a visual art major. Proud he's attending his first choice school, and my alma mater. - Lisa

The Man Who Invented Christmas

Lisa and the kids saw this in the theater last year but I missed out - and boy do I regret it.  This was a joyous,  charming movie that made me smile from beginning to end.  Well done!

I'll pass

Welp. That sounds awful.

Jigsaw

I'm no fan of the Saw movies, which I view as torture porn.  Jigsaw was better than most in the series,  in that it wasn't completely awful.

Operation Finale

A film about the hunt for Eichmann after the war. It was a good solid movie but lacked a real sense of urgency. Worth a watch all the same.

Racoon Valley

A deaf woman cannot hear the evacuation order that empties her small town after a plane crash poisons the areas water,  leaving her alone to face the creatures it spawns. Atmospheric and slow, it isn't for everyone, but I liked it.

George HW Bush

RIP George Herbert Walker Bush. He was the first person I ever cast a ballot for,  and the man whose integrity and steadfastness converted this reluctant Democrat into a loyal Republican.  You served this nation well sir; sleep well.  #41

Searching

Really, really good.  One of the best films I've seen ail year.

Cam

This Netflix original is a film about an online adult-content worker - a "Camgirl" - who finds her account hacked by a lookalike that begins to take over her life. It is smart, inventive, and at times downright creepy. It's not perfect but it's well worth a watch. (sexual content, adults only)

My Boo

Bruh. Already 23 levels in on my 3rd Boo. #JustTooMuchTalent

Friday, November 16, 2018

Dang, I'm good.

I've conquered #MyBoo. Again.

William Goldman

RIP a great writer and screenwriter (even if he did write The Princess Bride)

Captain MooMoo Goes to the Vet

Took the new cat to the vet today. Captain MooMoo is down to 17 pounds(!) from 19.3# at the pound, and despite what the Humane Society told us, he's completely declawed. 🙀😿

Roy Clark

RIP to the underrated guitarist. I remember him well from Hee Haw and a guest appearance on The Odd Couple.

Bohemian Rhapsody

We saw this last Tuesday.  As a biography it's as insightful as the back of a trading card, but the music and the performances made it a delight.  Lauren was researching Queen and playing their music all the next day.

The MEG

Empty heated drivel. But fun empty headed drivel.

Faded Coat of Blue by Owen Parry

A fine novel.

We Remember

100 years ago today - at the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of November, 1918 - the Great War/World War I came to an end. In 1568 days of fighting 20 million people lost their lives, merely to set the stage for a bloodier, longer sequel. To all who served in that brutal conflict, RIP. #WeRemember

Do you need a Christmas Tree?

If you're in a tight spot, we're willing to give away our Christmas decorations: a pre-lit tree of five or six feet, and a full set of blue lights, garland, and ornaments. Just shoot me or Lisa a private message.

Despicable.

When Trump, of all people, calls you rude and people nod their heads,  then you need to reevaluate your life.  I'm looking at you Mr. Acosta.

Good News

Reminder

Reminder: If you're a legal US Citizen eligible to vote, please do so today.

If you're not a citizen, ineligible due to age or felony convictions, or long dead, then I'm sure you're eager to vote Democrat and no reminder was needed. My bad for wasting your time.

Venom

The movie itself was ok. What surprised me was just how awful Tom Hardy was in this movie. WtH?

Yum

A Beautiful Doggo

Slender Man

 Basically, The Ring.

The Spy Who Dumped Me

McKinnon was a waste of salary, but overall it was ok.

Congrats to Sen. Romney!

A hearty congratulations to new Utah Senator Mitt Romney!

Jack Benny still holds up

I'm literally LOL and applauding at a Jack Benny radio show where Benny goes off script to mock guest star Jack Warner (of Warner Bros) for flubbing his lines. RIP Jack, you were grand.

D'Oh!

Found the missing car keys - on the back window of that very car.

An Argument in Class

In my law seminar the professor helpfully compared Republicans to Joe McCarthy and the Salem Witch trial accusers. A bevy of liberal classmates jumped on that train, with one even bragging about her father literally urinating on McCarthy's grave. IDC what politician you are, I can't conceive of pissing on your grave. Disrespectful and boorish. So I opened my mouth, and for the next forty minutes it was heated and uncomfortable. As I got into the elevator afterwards a classmate said "Dude, that was AWESOME!" but it didn't feel "awesome" - it felt like every conservative paranoid fantasy about the liberal academia presented itself at my front door. Ugh, that class SUCKS.

Willie McCovey

RIP to the great Giants slugger. As he was a little before my time I know his name best because of McCovey Cove, the water outside of the Giant's park that became home to many of Barry Bonds' home runs.

This is Great

Good for the Bucks. OTOH the law school perimeter is littered with bird corpses, and it's new enough and expensive enough that the design should have addressed the issue.

The Happytime Murders

I went to see this with Yaya at the Showtime cinema. Rarely have I seen a worse film outside of a Mystery Science Theater episode. Just a questionable use of resources, both for the filmmaker and the viewer.

The New Porch Light

It took me 3x as long today as it should have, but in the end it got done. Ladies and gents, our new porch light.

Irresponsible

WISN 12 started the 10 o'clock news by saying there was a missing and endangered girl, a situation complicated by a problem with the state's Amber Alert system . . . And then promptly cut to Packers coverage.  Then Brewers coverage.  Oh, and THEN the endangered girl.  SMFH. #GetYourPrioritiesRight

Jim Taylor

RIP to the Packers great, a fullback who held the team rushing record for an amazing 43 years.

Headboard up for grabs

I need to get rid of a 3 piece queen size headboard asap. Its brown tufted leather, no hardware as it attaches to the wall. Disclaimer: attaching the three pieces so they are level requires some patience and finesse. If you or someone you know needs a beautiful headboard... let me know. We are only replacing because we were gifted another one that fits our decor more.  - Lisa

SMH

The BBC just ran an article urging British citizens to stop drinking their own urine. Ladies and Gentlemen, the former rulers of the world.

The 13th Doctor

RE: the new Doctor Who. I watched the premiere. Jodie was fine, a bit of an over-actor, but nothing to bash (or praise) there on the basis of  one episode. I liked that they made the  gender change a non-issue so far, treating it like par for the course rather than some SJW  "win." I hope that continues. The story was fine, and I'm glad they didn't trot out any of the tired old baddies, but yo, that wasn't Who. In tone, in cinematography, in deaths,  in the lack of titles, music, and a Tardis, it felt more Torchwood or one of the other spinoffs than proper Who. A new era, a new showrunner at the helm, and apparently a bigger budget - yeah, I get all that - but still. Anyway, I'd grade it a B.

The FEMA Test

Me, after the FEMA Test

And legitimate kudos to #NBCNightlyNews, who reported objectively on the record employment levels in the US (a 49 year unemployment low), and the booming economy. I didn't think the MSM had it in 'em.

Hollywood Double-Standards

Rosie O’Donnell:  “f*ck u u closeted idiot"
Kathy Griffin: "Look at Miss Lindsey Graham trying to be all tough! What?Does Putin have a picture of Lindsay f*cking a donkey?"
Bill Maher joked that Graham needed the “stabilizing influence of his dead boyfriend" John McCain.

When they're not busy supporting pedophiles (Allen and Polanski) rapists (Cosby) and creeps (Weinstein) Hollywood is busy being homophobic.

Oh No!!!

Lost a whole pot of freshly made White Chicken Chili last night.  May it RIP.
