This weekend he's in St Louis, Missouri for a meet, and played three matches today, with another one tomorrow.
They lost the first match 16-6, against a team that was much faster and had a full set of substitutes for each player, enabling them to have a constant stream of rested players.
Smiley reported that the one time he was on the attack he lost the ball and thereafter stayed on defense, which is his preference anyway.
Match two was against a different school and, while it ended in defeat, it was tightly contested. Smiley stayed on defense, played solid, and blocked the final shot before the buzzer.
They won game three against Truman State by two points, but would have won by forfeit if they had not; the other school was short of players and filled their roster with volunteers from other teams.
I wish the team well tomorrow.
We're proud of you Smiley!
