As games go, it was a dud yesterday, a lackluster 4-0 loss. For my Dad, who tries to see a game a month, it's an unbroken string of losses dating back years. Still, it was a good time. 

As we were leaving he had a lot of trouble getting to his feet. "When did you get so old Dad?" I asked, not unkindly. "I asked myself the same question last week," he said. 

Later, getting mushy and unmanly, I thanked him for all he's done for me over the years. 

"I could have done better, " he said. 

 "You did fine Pop," I replied.

Chris Carter to Sign with the Yankees

When the Brewers parted ways with him I had hoped this would happen. He'll make a fine stopgap first baseman for the Yanks.

Smiley went to a Brewers game today with my Dad and Jonah. They lost - he's never been to a win - but you won't see any pictures because he and my Dad are fuddy duddies who think a camera steals your soul.

After the game we waited in a line that literally stretched around the ballpark, but in the end Lauren got to run the bases, and even saw two of her teachers!

Mike Hegan

RIP former Brewer and announcer, Mike Hegan, who also had lent name on a batting cage facility here in Milwaukee. 

BREAKING NEWS: The Brewers have traded Nori Aoki to the Royals for 24 year old lefty Will Smith. Aoki was the lone Brewer on my fantasy team, and a good one at that. I'll miss ya!

I just want to point out that if you take away the Brewers impressive 9 game winning streak, they are 6 and 18 on the year.

Congratulations to the Brewers on notching a second consecutive winning season - an impressive accomplishment, given that they were 12 games under .500 with only 42 games left on the schedule. IIRC they had a similar surge to finish off a Trebelhorn year, back in '87 or '89. In other baseball news, my Yanks are back alone in first with two to play, congrats to the Tigers and Prince on clinching the Central, and to the Nationals for their first ever division title. Well done all.
