Happy Birthday Dad and Grandma

Tommorow would have been my Dad's 76th birthday,  and today is my Grandma K's bday. She always said my Dad was her bday present. - Lisa

3 Years Gone

I didn't say anything because Lisa was having a hard enough day as it was,  but yesterday marked the 3rd anniversary of her Dad's passing.  RIP Dennis.  You are missed.

At the Gym with Smiley

A mighty fine workout with Smiley. And I brought my late father-in-laws lifting gloves.

Happy Father's Day Dennis

:(

A friend mentioned she's taking her dad out to lunch Sunday. Instinctively I responded, "I should call my dad and make....". Before I finished the sentence tears streamed down my face because It hurt so much to remember I don't have my dad to call. Sundays gonna be hard, hug your dads extra tight. 😢 - Lisa

A Dennis Anecdote

Dennis memory of the day: When Lisa was little her Dad took her and her brothers, at the boys suggestion, to see a horror movie at the Avalon.

Seven years younger than her oldest brother, it was not a movie she wanted to watch, and for good reason. At one point in the film a guy is attacked with a knife, and brutally and repeatedly impaled against a tree.

As the guy on screen was stabbed, her Dad suddenly broke into song, singing "I'm all right" by Kenny Loggins - you know, the song from Caddyshack.

The theater audience laughed, but Lisa was mortified.

Over time she came to believe he did it because he saw she was upset, and wanted to distract her from the movie.

It's a story she'll probably tell till her dying day.

Sorrow

Just got into work from my friend's father wake whose passing is eerily similar to my mother's passing.  Days after a Thanksgiving get together,  Packers playing on Monday night, realizing you are become the new adults of the family.

So, lost in my thoughts of what I went through those days 11 years ago and what Melissa Slapczynski and her family are going through I went into work 1 hour early, not realizing my normal start time of 9pm.

My family's thoughts and prayers are with the Lisa and Team Slap

:(

I'm not going to lie and say I thought about my father- in-law on a daily basis over the years, but this morning I was driving home from work and thought of the perfect Christmas gift for him (a few dozen hours of classic boxing matches), then stopped myself and remembered he's gone.

A Recap

1. The second show of the recital went much better, with Lauren proudly remembering her dance and GC/OJ taking the stage for the family dance.

 2. My last shift at work was one of the most brutal, suffocating, titanicly boring 8 hours of my life. It is a misery that cannot, nay, MUST NOT, be repeated. All blame goes to Thomas G, who apparently thinks bettering the lives of his family is more important than sticking around to entertain me. What a selfish pr**k.

3. #TeamSlap spent the afternoon at Lisa's Dad's house, emptying and cleaning a spare bedroom for the return of Lisa's stepmom from a care facility. Kudos to all of 'em for busting their butts for no reward but the satisfaction of helping someone else. Good job

Ken Norton

Boxer Ken Norton, a heavyweight champion that beat Ali and has a connection to my father-in-law (Dennis was a sparring partner), died today. He was 70. RIP

My father-in-law stepped up & took the kids to their dance photos, waited there for the 2 hrs it took & drove them home - all not only solo but in a happy, Grandfather-y mood. He saved our butt big time, and I am grateful.

Sadly, while YaYa was OK, Junie spit on him & said she hated him, Smiley wouldn't listen & ran away from him, & LuLu vomited all over his car. Welcome to my world sir, welcome to my world.
