The 2016 Dance Recital is This Weekend!
We're back from the first of three recital performances this weekend for Arabesque Dance, held this year at Pius XI. This was the first year OJ was on pointe, and has certainly mastered her stage smile! All three did great and I couldn't be prouder. Thanks to all family and friends who will attend this weekend.

My Esteemed Dance Career
This weekend is the annual dance recital for the kids. In their honor, here's a Throwback Thursday - er, Friday - post of my own dance pics circa 1978.

Dance and the Hip
I did something stupid to my hip last night while shopping at the pet store and it's been getting worse all day. Almost ready to grab the cane again. Almost. Can't sleep more than a few hours at a time and took my prescription for the first time in weeks. Ugh.
I did however take Smiley to his dance recital practice today, where 13 boys make up the largest male class in the 36 year history of the studio. #ProudPapa

Music Box Dancer
She's dancing to "music box dancer" in this year's recital.... Grandma Jeanne's favorite song . The recital is April 30th at 1 and 7 and May 1st at 2, both at Pius. Tickets are usually $13 each - Lisa

The School Dance!
Tonight was the annual school dance, and once again Smiley and Junie had a great time (although PD got grouchy near the end).

Junie and the American Girl Dance
LK needed an American Doll for her dance class. Yeah, I know, right? But knock-offs are allowed and so we picked up a doll from Walmart and delivered it to her in class. If you were in New Berlin last night, you might have seen my wife cuddling with a doll as she drove down National Avenue.

Pointe
LuLu- since you were so excited about your new pointe shoes yesterday, I thought you might like to see a picture of your Mom in hers from when SHE was twelve! :)

Daddy Fail
Daddy fail: I overslept and the kids missed their music and dance lessons. Well, "OVERslept" is a bad choice of words because if I pulled it off it would have been on 90 minutes of sleep. I'm consoling myself with the fact that LuLu is mildly ill and that in the end my failure simply reinforces Lisa's standing in #teamslap
Omro
Spending the day in Lacrosse with good friend Jolene watch her daughter, Jordan dance with her Omro team at the WI State Dance Championship. They did a marvelous job. As a senior, this is Jordan's last trip "to state" and she represented! Seems like just yesterday she was a nervous freshman worried about the audition. - Lisa

A Night of Firsts
With Lisa up north for the weekend, I have the honor of accompanying Junie and Smiley to their school dance. It is momentous. First, it is LK's first ever school dance. Second, it is for all intents and purposes Smiley's first date! He asked a girl named Isabella to the dance, and boy did her face light up when we arrived! #bigdayforTeamSlap. #awwwSmileyisgrowingup

Sweet Revenge
While the boss was volunteering I took the #Centerpieces to dance class. Lulu had been a disrespectful bear for most of the afternoon, and by the time we left I'd had enough. My punishment was brutal and effective. For the entire half hour ride the radio was tuned to church hymns. Not Gospel mind you, but earnest Protestant pleas to the Lord, interrupted only be the recitation of Psalms. I think their ears were bleeding by the time we arrived. #thatllshowthem

How this recital went
The first show of the dance recital had some ups and downs. Lu forgot her dance shoes at home (situation resolved) but later also discovered she was missing one of her 3 costumes, which scratched the long awaited #TeamSlap family dance with her and YaYa. Junie also fumbled nearly her whole dance. Kudos to our Junie on her honesty though: Lisa gave her an out, blaming a music miscue, to which she responded "That wasn't it. I just forgot everything." They're en route to the second show, which should (knock on wood) go smoother 🙂
