I Guess It's Snowing

Yes, Facebook friends, it is, in fact snowing. Thank you for documenting it ad nauseum.

Falling Snow

It's pretty, but so is a mushroom cloud. Four inches or more in my alley, with 24 hrs of it left to go.

Shoveling out the blizzard

I've shoveled twice today to keep pace with the storm. Once before school with the kids, and by my lonesome at noon. My hip is throbbing. Wanna take bets on how crippled I'll be tomorrow? 😉

Thank you Junie!

With 5-7" of snow on the ground I called upstairs and said any kid that was awake had to help me shovel. Shockingly, the previous mayhem abruptly stopped and all was silent. Ten minutes later tho my Honey Bunches of Oats Sweet Baby Doll - aka Junie- came out and did the whole front by herself and then helped me in back.

By the way, I know plow drivers are working hard. BUT I've been driving in snow for three decades, and in worse storms, and the roads are junk. Ab-so-lute junk.

25 years ago today: the big snowstorm!

25 years ago,on a day I remember very well as a high school student, Milwaukee was hit by a snowstorm - ON MAY 10TH!

Here's Vince Condella, WITI meteorologist, talking about his memories of that day:

25 years ago today (May 10, 1990) I awoke to quite a surprise. Actually everybody was surprised. On the TV6 News at 10 the previous night, my forecast called for a chilly, cloudy day ahead with light rain. But overnight the weather system intensified, or deepened as we call it in the meteorology business. That increase in intensity brought colder air into the system and changed any rain to snow overnight. I couldn't believe when I woke up and heard reports on the radio of a heavy wet snow. I was hoping it was a dream. No such luck. And because we had warm weather in the previous weeks, including temperatures in the 80s in late April, the trees were budding and full of new leaves. Those leaves got loaded with the heavy wet snow and came down, bringing power lines with it.

Remember back when it was warm and sunny and springlike? You know, a few days ago? Today, we have this.

Smiley - Professional Snow Shoveler

Bay View roads, minus the arteries of KK and Clement, are passable but only with effort and the risk of getting stuck at any point. Quite the mess.

Here's the house of Alys H. Gulp.

Our van is double parked down the road as there are no parking spots that aren't buried in snow. Smiley is kicking butt.

Alys:

He definitely earned the double pay! I see the wind is awful too. GREAT job, Smiley!! Thank you!

Grandma Jeanne:

Well done ðŸ˜Š so proud

Sybil W:

what a great lad you have there Dan.

Snow on Top of Snow

A week ago someone in New Berlin called my lot small, which is true in comparison to her own but false in relation to other city lots; we are both visually and in fact, the largest on the block.

Lu finished the front but could not handle the wind tunnel of our backyard and alley, and so I was drafted into action. Ten to twelve inches of dense heavy snow, with a stiff wind and more coming down, made it hard going but not in the top ten worst of our time here.

YaYa proved an unwilling helper to LuLu and me, but help she did.

Now, time for some pain pills before trying to get out of the alley and taking Smiley to Alys's house.

Thanks Lu!

With me full of aches and pains from the accident and Smiley prepping for his job site, LuLu has gamely tackled the shoveling. Between this (the front walk),the back, the parking slab, and the alley I'm sure I'll be drafted soon. But thanks Olive!

Yeti!

SasSQUASH???

He Earned this Reward!

Yesterday Smiley took all the money he's earned shoveling snow and bought a 9" Android tablet complete with a case and keyboard. I made sure to let the salesman know he earned the money himself, and the little guy could barely stop smiling. I'm proud of you Smiley. Enjoy your tablet!

Proud Papa

Proud as heck of Smiley. It's 6:23 a.m. and I'm watching him shovel the sidewalk at Alys'  house. He woke up early to meet his obligation before school. #goodmanintraining

Another Snow Removal Job

In addition to clearing our sidewalk and Alys's, Smiley was also hired  to clear Tre's 's corner lot today. A busy, and lucrative, day for P-diddyWeeDiddy
