RIP Angelcakes, our beloved kitty
Angelcakes entire life - minus her first few weeks on Earth - were documented here, on Slapinons. From the day we got here (September 15th, 2006) she was featured here.
In recent years, especially as YaYa moved out to college and then her own place, Angelcakes grew closer to Lisa. She would wait for her to go to bed (frankly, she'd sometimes *prompt* Lisa), then take her signature resting spot atop her Momma.
By Christmas 2020 I secretly feared the end was near, and so we included the pets on our annual Christmas card. By spring her vet visits had increased in frequency, and by the end she was so weak I was trying to feed her oral syringes of milk and the juice from tuna cans. It was time to let her go.
With Covid stil prevalent, pet owners were only allowed in for end of life procedures. At the end, it was YaYa, Lisa, and I with her at the veterinarian's office. We held Angelcakes, we petted her, and we cried as her life slipped away.

Squeaky Toys
He’s had this $4.99 squeaking steak home for 3 minutes and it’s already broke. Ugh. Ok, He loves the squeaky stuff. What squeaky stuff doesn’t break and how much is it gonna cost me? - Lisa

Visiting The Vet Mid-Quarantine
I took Huckleberry to the vet for a follow-up today and dealt with the oddest consequence of the Corona quarantine to date.
I was prohibited from entering the building, as were all owners. Once in the parking lot I had to call the vet and notify them I was there. After a few minutes someone came out and removed Huck from the car and took him in for shots he may or may not have actually received, since I didnt see them administered.
The clerk then called my phone and collected payment, and subsequently walked Huck out.
Just nutty.
Ideas?
Huck needs his nails trimmed... [but with Covid quarantine in place] any ideas for right now? - Lisa

Got a big spare bag of dog & cat food, dog treats, & 30 crickets for the toad. The pets will be A-OK should we be quarantined.

Huckleberry at 4 months old
Some days are harder then others, I’m not gonna lie, but berry boi is doing well and growing FAST! Walks way better on a leash now. Not nearly as scared.
Loves eating the cat food instead of his own and still too many accidents resulting in us crating him at night (seems to be able to hold it when it’s HIS floor he’s pooping/peeing on. Lol).

The Huck at 4 months old
From Lisa:

Definitely a big chewer and already spoiled enough to have treats he’ll reject....ah, kids! 🙄"

Huckleberry is Adjusting
If I had to place a bet, I think GusGus and Huckleberry will be good friends (although he did chase Gus for a second last night - but they've bumped noses too.) So far Custard has remained aloof but unafraid, once or twice walking right up to him. Angelcakes is openly contemptuous but has not hid or cried, so fingers crossed.
He is agreeable to the leash only about a fifth of the time and has had accidents in the house, but he's already improving in both regards.
He gets along well with the kids and Lisa, and spent the afternoon with us in the car while we ran errands. He seems cautious around me and sometimes fearful. I think my size and volume remind him of some bad times in the past (he was skin and bones and terribly meek at the pound.) But we will move past that lickety split.
#GusGus. #Huckleberry
Oh, and as you may have noticed by the affinity for boxes apparently we done adopted another cat.
