AP World History

In the good news department, YaYa passed her AP World History exam with a score qualifying her for college credit!

School Bus Accident

YaYa's school bus was hit by a car on the way home. She's OK. Word is the car hit the bus then still had enough speed to hit another car, then careen into an empty grass lot. That's the second bus accident she's been in, the first happening years ago during her time in STAA.

I just finished a ten question, three and a half hour tax exam. I had never, in my life, dreaded a test more, but it wasn't quite as horrible as I feared. The curve may be helped by the fact that it was the last class for many graduates, and no less than four told me they did just enough to pass and no more. As for my own grade, I'll take what I get, as long as I pass. C's get degrees too.

Junie's group project

A couple hours ago I took LK and her friends to the Cudahy library to brainstorm an anti-bullying poster they've been assigned. Then on to Dollar Tree for supplies. Yay! What fun for me 😉

Birds and Bees Indeed

I'm no zoologist, but I just watched two ducks f-ing on the lawn of my kid's school. The male appeared to finish, push the female down into the grass, then strut away #WellDonePlaya

Me Right. She Wrong.

At Smiley's parent-teacher conference I corrected the grammar on a poster his teacher made. The teacher stood her ground and said I was wrong, and so I looked it up online, was proven right, and forced a retraction from her.

"Gawd, you are such an obnoxious a--hole," Lisa said, not unkindly.

"Yes," I said. "But I'm an a--hole that was right. Again."

A Beef

I can't put into words how annoyed I am that one of my classes insists on us briefing cases when they are, at best, merely illustrative of the black letter law. This isn't Constitutional Law, where there's eloquence and historical importance. Who gives a bleep what the tax court wrote, when it's all solidified into cut and dry regulations a page later? Quit wasting my time, I have Words with Friends to play.

LuLu got hurt at school

I checked my phone when class ended to find an awful and vague "Taking her to the ER" text from Lisa. Subsequent texts -- composed earlier but delayed by the network -- explained that Lulu had gotten hurt in gym class and possibly had a broken arm. New texts indicate it's "just" a bad sprain, but it's a bad start to the afternoon.

Parking at Marquette Sucks

Currently sitting in a parking spot four blocks from the law school debating if I want to make the hike on a hip that's acted up since Saturday. Thank you Marquette, for not only making a tiny parking garage that fills quickly, but for blocking off a heap of parking spots around the school so your window cleaners can entice even more birds to their bitter death.

YaYa the recruiter

On Monday Yaya  went back to her old elementary school and gave two recruiting speeches on behalf of her high school. Lisa attended both, and reports that she was persuasive and eloquent. #ProudPapa

Apparently, *not* a teachable moment

This morning's class did not go well. When two people stumbled answering questions, the Professor got angry and walked out of the room. I've never seen that before. Well, literally once before, in 1st Grade when Sr Virginia flipped a desk and was dragged from the room by Sr Kathleen.

Gold Star

Gold star 🌟 goes to Dan  for making rice crispy treats for the back-to-school bake sale (with proceeds going to LuLu 's DC trip). I was planning on doing it, but he had them completed and individually wrapped by the time I woke up. Wow... Thanks babe! - Lisa

My two week summer vacation (from school, not work) ended today. Bitterness envelops me. However, it was neat seeing all the 1L's dressed to impress in their Sunday best while everyone else slouched around in their jeans and shorts. A few 1L's stopped me for directions and advice on how to use the printer, so I guess I now look like a veteran.

A Tax Exam

This morning I had a four hour taxation exam that I did not fail. Whether or not I did well is another question. I now get to enjoy a whole three weeks of summer before the semester begins.

A-

Grades were posted for the first class of the summer session. I got an A-. I'm pleased. Quoting Junie: "I'm glad you're happy . . . with your minus."

Sadly

I was never really popular. In high school I was voted "Guy we didn't realize goes to our school."

How not to take a 4 hour law school final

How not to take a 4 hour law school final:

1. Pick up your new glasses first, making reading twenty pages of questions just a hoot

2. Use a laptop with a power port issue, leaving you three hours of juice for a four hour exam.

3. Ditch said laptop and grab bluebooks like it's 1995. Make sure your writing is illegible.

4. After the exam, email your professor about Judge Posner's recent comments, unintentionally pi*sing on said professor's idol

Sigh. It's a wonder I manage to cross the street without assistance.

I feel soon bad for you. . . not

My professor was a . . . jerk for the first hour of class. He was short tempered, dismissive, condescending, and visibly agitated . He then stopped class for a moment and apologized to us all, saying he'd had insomnia and was going on only a few hours of sleep. Assuming that "few" meant more than two, that was at least one more hour than I'd gotten. #ButThatsNoneOfMyBusiness
