LuLu's Basketball Banquet

I just want to point out that if you take away the Brewers impressive 9 game winning streak, they are 6 and 18 on the year.

The (official) Dance Portraits of 2012-2013

Here's my YaYa in her Thriller costume; she also performed in Let's Twist Again.

This is LuLu in her Something to Dance For costume; this was taken ONE day after her tonsillectomy. All props to the tough chick.

Smiley danced in Locomotion

Young Junie danced to Lilo's and was gooooorrrrrgeous!

Finally, here's a group shot of Team Slap :)

LuLu!

We're packing up two of the kids to go over by Grandma's this weekend and Lisa says to make sure they're home by Sunday so she can spend Mother's Day with them. My response? "WHY? I sure don't want them here for Father's Day."

Quote of the Day

I don't play role playing games, and I confess to a slight bias against the folks who do, but when I was reminded that the Wheel of Time, one of my favorite book series, had an RPG, I was intrigued.

I told Lisa I was thinking about buying it to play with some friends, and she stared at me quietly for a moment before delivering a classic zinger:

"You grow less attractive every year."

It reads kinda mean in print, but in person it was (literally) LOL.

A Memory of Light

I finished the 14th and final Wheel of Time book "A Memory of Light". My vote? Eh. Not a bad book, but one of the weaker efforts of the series*. The writing seemed rushed, the dialogue was sometimes flat and clichéd, and I thought the Rand portion of the final battle was dull dull dull. That last chapter nearly rescued it though, and an average WOT is still better than most books. Grade: B

A Funny

Because no good deed goes unpunished, the man who rescued the three abducted women in Cleveland is being skewered on The Smoking Gun website after they dug up domestic violence issues from the '90's. What a pathetic use of the site. As one commenter said, "One of the greatest compliments a person can give you is to talk about what you USED to do". Kudos to him for his actions this week, and a big thumbs down to TSG.
Today, disaster: for the first time ever I took the kids out for ice cream cones and they finished them. Every. Single. Bite. What's the point of having kids unless there are leftovers to swipe for yourself? This is the reason I constantly made new ones, but now, with the supply of youngin's cut off, I'm going to have to start ordering my "own" food. LOL

Two sides of YaYa

Gary's Mom's Burgers

~30 years ago I had a grade school assignment that involved telling the class how to do something, step by step. My classmate Gary Michalski repeated his Mom's recipe for baking hamburgers in the oven, and as a kid I thought that was so unheard of that it's stuck with me to this day. Fast fwd to yesterday, when I was pressed for time and had six mouths to feed. When that anecdote popped into my head for the zillioneth time I said WTH and tossed a dozen burgers in the oven. Half an hour later, with no fuss, no muss, and very little cleanup we sat down for dinner. The lesson? Gary's Mom knew her s**t, and all props to them both.

Death of the Messiah Volume 2

A couple of days ago I finished Raymond Brown's "The Death of the Messiah, From Gethsemane to the Grave, Volume 2: A Commentary on the Passion Narratives in the Four Gospels". It is a textual criticism that takes the PN's and dissects the language, translation, textual context, verisimilitude and historicity of each verse. An exhaustive scholarly work of over 1500 pages, I resorted to using multiple colors of highlighters to keep the information straight. It exhausted me mentally, and I am proud to say I finished it. A great work by a great scholar. Grade: A+

Ducks at the Park

A TV kinda day

After a rough Wed, Thurs was pretty good. I spent the morning running errands, then watched "Sale of the Century", "Press Your Luck and "Psych" with Lisa, slept a bit, then walked home from school with Junie (the 3rd walk this week). I watched the newest Dr. Who, then cleaned out a corner of the basement that had taken in water during last weeks flooding here in Milwaukee. Then dinner, an hour nap, and off to work.
