My birdies

One of the best things about my new job - aside from the pay, sunlight, weekends off, and respect - is that I petitioned to install a bird feeder outside my window, putting a wealth of birds three feet from me most of the day. There are masses of sparrows, the rare red winged blackbird appearance, cardinals, and a group of mourning doves that now entertain me daily.  There's even some bumblebees that bobble around the flowers next to it.

I love it!

having control of the speaker at work is going to my head. - Lulu

I just spent an hour with a wonderful 94 year old tax client (DOB November 15th, 1927). She not only drove here on her own, she told me she was going grocery shopping AND stopping at Walmart after the appointment. She did complain about the parking here tho - *because she doesn't use a handicapped plate, and doesn't want one*. She looked, spoke, and sounded an awful lot like my late Great Aunt Mabel.

No Way!

A scant $19/ hour to be an elephant *zookeeper* at a major American zoo? Hellllll no! It sure makes me think less of a profession I've always admired too.

Change

A co-worker turned friend took a new job today, a move she’s been afraid to make. Kinda symbolic starting preparations for a new job on the first day of Lent. I know she’s gonna do great, but I’m gonna miss her!

Been a day of feeling like I’m not where I need to be but the knowledge HE is looking out and will guide me to where I need to be WHEN I need to be there is keeping me putting one foot in front of the other.
Praying he preps everyone I care about to receive all the good things he has planned for us!

Quotes

Today was a great day. First day of the 3rd week in a 12 week training program.

Some motivational words from the man we celebrate today...
“If you can’t fly, then run ....if you can’t run then walk ...if you can’t walk ...then crawl, but by all means keep moving” -MLK
“The time is always right to do what’s right”

A Sweet Gesture

Most nights one of the kids, usually LK, writes a note and puts it in my lunch.  No such note yesterday,  but when I got off work this  was left on my dash. Half an hour away from home,  and the kids still thought to drive by my work and suprise me with a message.  I gotta admit,  I was touched.

Smiley's 1st Day of Work

Well today is my baby boy’s birthday! He’s off bright and early to start his first day of work EVER on his 15th bday! If you’re stopping at the Bay View McDonald’s don’t embarrass him too bad! Excited for him and really proud. I wish I could post a pic of him in his uniform but he made me promise I wouldn’t. Kids. - Lisa

Smiley just landed his first "real" job!! Congratulations!!

Update Time!

Team slap updates!!

Definitely getting lots of great news the last couple days!!! Two lifelong friends are doing better with employment and living situations. Another making changes to get healthier and get education towards a major promotion.

SMILEY just got his first taxable employment (say hi at McDonald’s).
DAN - awaiting bar approval and has thrown his hat in for some jobs.
LULU - completed another complicated step towards her Madison scholarship while getting incredible grades at school and managing work.
YAYA - holding it down at UWM, bravely fighting the beast of college math while keeping a job and social life. Hearing her travel plans to Amsterdam/Paris is amazing!
And lil JUNIE is busy pre-spending her expected loot earned dog sitting. She’s become her client Luna’s new favorite hooman (even if temporary) and is always finding new ways to distract Luna from missing her family. She sure loved her chicken patty yesterday!
So proud of my people this morning. God is good y’all!! - Lisa ❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰🥰

Anyone with summerfest/ State fair job connections or current job connections for a 15 year old please contact me! The two oldest are happily employed at the airport and it’s Smiley's turn to find a way to earn during his spare time. Sad the lack of opportunities for teens these days! Thanks! - Lisa

MOR Bakery

LuLu invited me to dine at her workplace Friday, and I proudly accepted.  I felt very loved in that moment - and the soup was pretty good too!

Goodbye, Fair K-Mart

Although I kept it under wraps on social media, for the last few months I was a proud (part-time) employee of the Cudahy Kmart. If you wanted to get ahold of me from November on, good luck - two jobs, law school, and family took every minute I had.
I'd encouraged YaYa to work at Kmart b/c I wanted her to be a part of a company that had such a big part in American life, and I feared the end was near for it. As fate would have it, the very day I was hired - I wanted extra cash for Christmas, and looked forward to working with my daughter - they announced the location was closing.
Yesterday, sadly, the lights went out for the last time. Fittingly, the very last toy left in the store: a Jake Paul poster. Nobody wants that, even at 90% off lol
I had a blast in the two months I worked there. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy working with the public and I had some great co-workers: YaYa Corey, Cav, Alex D, Danny, Pauline, and others; and while cashiering was fine, my heart belongs to Hardlines, and I could do strays all day.
RIP Cudahy Kmart. You will be missed.

ISO - Job (YaYa)

I need a job! Kmart has closed and so I’m left without work.

I have more than a year of cash handling / cashiering experience, and I love interacting with people. I’m pretty good with customer service!
I would like to work no more than 15 minute away from my home.
I would be open to temporary or seasonal work- although I think most seasons are over right now.
I have worked at Spirit Halloween, Kmart, Incrediroll, and Steins. The longest job that I have kept was from 2017 - 2018.
I’d prefer to not work in food, however, I’m getting desperate.. so if it comes down to it I’ll have to.
I have an interesting schedule, I have work release at school so I only go every other day. On the days that I do go, I leave at 1:40. My schedule is pretty open!!
Please help me out if you can! I’ve been applying like CRAZY but nobody has called me back.

:(

Saturday night I fell at work. All I had to do was step over a little obstacle, but alas the hip said no at that moment and I went straight to the ground instead. Ab-so-lutely humiliating.

Irresponsible

I'm in the B pool at Job Prior and this family put  a five year old (who cannot swim) alone on a float ring above 9ft of water! I had to say something.  I mean, come f*ing on.  Now the adult left the pool and I'm obligated to stay or leave this kid unattended to drown.  WTH.

A Visit to Job Prior

Those of you from Job Prior: if you haven't been back,  here are some changes to the main lobby.  Most noticeable: the sales office is now a bar.  I ran into an old houseman - God help me,  his name escapes me - who recognized me and chatted in much improved English.  The beds in C building suck and the bedding is thin,  but they have a pinball machine (I got on the leader board,  earning a free game on my first ball).

note: The mattresses are better in new room.  We were moved because of heater issues in original room.
