Sorrow

Just got into work from my friend's father wake whose passing is eerily similar to my mother's passing.  Days after a Thanksgiving get together,  Packers playing on Monday night, realizing you are become the new adults of the family.

So, lost in my thoughts of what I went through those days 11 years ago and what Melissa Slapczynski and her family are going through I went into work 1 hour early, not realizing my normal start time of 9pm.

My family's thoughts and prayers are with the Lisa and Team Slap

I Haven't Changed Much

Junie visits Grandma Louise

Well behaved and, believe it or not,  angelic at Grandma Louise's house. Tis a Christmas miracle :)

ISO:

If you get the Sunday Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel could you please save me the obit page? Thank you

The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies

Junie read this 173 page book on our trip (note the water damage from the beach!). It took a little reverse psychology, ala "You'll never finish such a big kid book" but she got there in the end! Nice job kid :)

Remember

Remember the Americans who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor

Unhealthy

The secret to how I survive on (typically) 5 hours of sleep a day. This is my consumption at work from just this weekend.

A Great Philosophy

Wise words from one of my three favorite President's. I believe this too and I'm glad Ike agrees. :)

Yay!

St Nick's was a hit. :)

December 5th

Not to continue the morbid theme of my week, but on this date, Dec 5, both of my great-grandfather's, and my paternal Grandma, passed away. Different years for each, thank God, but December 5 across the board.

Oops

Pretty shit*y to look at an eleven year old photo . . . and look down to see you're wearing the same shirt. #eek #shame #notTHATpoor

Just the Truth

Junie : Dad, are we weird cuz we don't believe in Santa Claus, and the Easter Bunny, and St. Nick?

Me: No, of course not.

Junie:  Well, at school everyone makes fun of me cuz they all still believe in that stuff.

Me: In second grade

Junie: Yeah.

Me: Then they're fu--king morons. Don't worry about them.

A Great Moment!

I walked and met the kids on the way home from school. Smiley ran a whole block to give me a hug when he saw me. #BeatThat

Soon

Nearing the end of the semester. Looking forward to recreational reading, $5 movie Tuesdays, and extra sleep.

:(

I'm not going to lie and say I thought about my father- in-law on a daily basis over the years, but this morning I was driving home from work and thought of the perfect Christmas gift for him (a few dozen hours of classic boxing matches), then stopped myself and remembered he's gone.

Dear LuLu

Dear LuLu

If you are to hack into my phone, putz around, mistakenly delete my Facebook app, and proceed to argue that it wasn't you that did it . . .

Then it is probably wise NOT to take selfies during the break-in and leave them on my phone.

My Father in Law has Passed Away :(

This morning Lisa's father passed away unexpectedly at the age of 68. Lisa loved him very much and its been a long, hard day, with a lot more trials to come. RIP Dennis. You'll be missed.

WhoooHooo!

Whoo-hoo! The Sad Sack Slapjacks finish the season above .500 (7-6) and are playoff bound -  for the first time this millennium!  Quoting a text from Socialist: ". . .as your commish and as your friend, I'm happy for you."

Gravity

Watching "Gravity" with Lisa. I like it, but Sandra Bullock's haircut is ruining the movie. No, really - it is. #stylecounts

update: The movie was good. Not great.

Egg Prices

Note that the local grocer charges a dollar more for a dozen eggs than I pay for a gallon of gas. Not for organic or anything fancy-dancy either, just run of the mill chicken eggs.

Meanwhile Aldi charges $1.59  for the same item.

Our Tree

This year: no real tree, and a return to the grand, smaller tree originally gifted to Lisa's mom by her own mother in 1982.

After Earth and a Nightmare (kinda the same thing)

A pretty awful night. For starters I watched "After Earth", a vaguely tolerable Wil Smith movie that isn't as awful as its reputation indicates. Then my sleep kept getting interrupted by nightmares about a trip to Cave of the Mounds where I was separated from the family and kidnapped, then forced to attend a birthday party up north. I was angry because I wasn't there for LK to see her first cave. #nutty
