Mother's Day

Oops. I accidentally said Happy Mother's Day to the women in my life in person, instead of posting a picture and a paragraph on social media. My bad yo.

RIP Angelcakes, our beloved kitty

Angelcakes entire life - minus her first few weeks on Earth - were documented here, on Slapinons. From the day we got here (September 15th, 2006) she was featured here.
In recent years, especially as YaYa moved out to college and then her own place, Angelcakes grew closer to Lisa. She would wait for her to go to bed (frankly, she'd sometimes *prompt* Lisa), then take her signature resting spot atop her Momma.

By Christmas 2020 I secretly feared the end was near, and so we included the pets on our annual Christmas card. By spring her vet visits had increased in frequency, and by the end she was so weak  I was trying to feed her oral syringes of milk and the juice from tuna cans. It was time to let her go.

With Covid stil prevalent, pet owners were only allowed in for end of life procedures. At the end, it was YaYa, Lisa, and I with her at the veterinarian's office. We held Angelcakes, we petted her, and we cried as her life slipped away.

She loved a lot, and she was loved in return. We still miss you Angel. RIP

RIP Michael Collins

RIP Michael Collins, Apollo 11 astronaut, and the only one to write his memoir without a ghostwriter.

Mortal Kombat and Godzilla v Kong

The only point to awful dreck like this and "Godzilla vs Kong" is to remind you that no matter what depths Hollywood sinks to - and my word, with this, they must be near the cellar - there is still 100 years of mostly decent cinema history to keep you busy.

A Painting Disaster

Lest you think a horrific bloodletting occurred in our bathroom, THIS is the handiwork of a painter recommended by his father, one of the driver's at Lisa's place of employment.

He was partially disabled with cerebal palsy, which we knew going in, but this mess had zero to do with a physical ailment.

He showed up high (on crack, if I read the signs right) and and even recognizing that fact I let him start. I won't pretend I did that for anything other sympathy for his CP.

He managed all of this damage in 10 minutes and when I saw it there went the last of my sympathy went bye-bye and I kicked him out of the house. He had the nerve to complain loudly that I hadn't paid him for the job.

Now comes the hard part: fixing all this.
