LuLu moves into the Dorms
Lisa, Junie, and I moved LuLu into her UW-Madison dorm today. The whole process was relaxed and unhurried, and we were able to stay to see her room 90% finished. This is the second kid we've moved out, but the first that is outside of a viable retrieval radius in case of a zombie outbreak, and knowing that - and that I won't see her for months at a time - made it rough. But life is change and turmoil, and I am wholly confident she'll do great and emerge an even stronger student that accomplishes great things! We love you! Go

Ten
Thirty years ago today - 30 YEARS! - Pearl Jam released Ten, their debut album. Within a few months my friend Atta would loan me a copy on cassette, and I was hooked. I wore out multiple copies and three decades later I still consider them "my" band.
Happy Anniversary!

Kasey's Pop Up
I visited Kasey’s pop up at the Maker Market at Discovery World last week after months of contemplating ordering these cookies from Mac MKE (and always seeming to miss the event booths) and I was wholeheartedly impressed with both the taste/presentation, but also Kasey herself. Very charming to talk to & her work speaks for itself. I’ll definitely be ordering custom goods soon! If you’ve been thinking about ordering- my advice, just do it!! - yaya

Rovers by Richard Lange
Yowsers, this was good!
Two imortal brothers - Rovers in their parlance, vampires in ours - run afoul of a Rover biker gang, and the violence that follows threatens to consume them all.
Richard Lange can WRITE, kind sir, and every page reminds you of that fact. This one's worth a purchase.

100 Years Ago Today
On this day in 1921, 100 years ago! - Bradley Corporation, one of Milwaukee’s manufacturing pioneers, launched the foot-activated Washfountain. This kind of sink survives to this day in many Milwaukee schools.

500 years ago today . . .
500 years ago today Aug. 13, 1521, the brutal Aztec Empire effectively ended as the last Emperor, Cuauhtemoc, was taken prisoner by the Spaniards.
Billy Summers by Stephen King
I'm stumped at the praise this book is getting; I think it's an entertaining crime novel that will be forgotten in a decade, even by hardcore King fans. It's full of King tropes that wore thin years ago: the main character (poses as) a writer; there's a bunch of sappy kids who recite rhymes and talk like sitcom children from the 50's; and anyone who votes differently than the author is a monster. My biggest pet peeve? That the novel within a novel, designed to show how Billy went from hero to contract killer, merely stops, with its conclusion abruptly left to be explained within a conversation. Bah. It's worth a library read at best. #stephenking

The Suicide Squad
I watched The Suicide Squad tonight with Lulu and I really liked it. It was far more enjoyable than the 2016 mess, with a stronger cast, better writing, and enough action and humor to forgive a sometimes lackadaisical and meandering plot. It's worth your price of admission (or subscription.)
