Scary Smiley!

Smiley's Caillou

My Gals

Love Ranch and The American

We watched 'The American' a few days back, and despite a good trailer & George Clooney in the lead role, it was el-boringo. Criminy, *I* wanted to kill the dull bugger myself by the 3rd act.

'Love Ranch' a Helen Mirren/Joe Pesci film about a legal brothel in the '70's, was pretty good but ended like a bad TV movie, narration and all.

Snow Woes

Hey you asshat city plow drivers - thanks for burying the entrance to the alley under three feet of snow for the *8th* time. The only reason I'd ever own a dog would be so I could have it take a dump on your lawn.

Just dug out the alley entrance again. The side street to our north is damn impassable, but this yahoo insists on making pass after pass on the driveable street to our south.

While we were out in the alley LuLu konked me on the side of the head with a steel snow shovel. Full force, on a ridiculously comic backswing. Ouch.

Winter's Bone

Btwn shoveling we watched 'Winter's Bone'. Set in the Ozarks, it's about a 17 yr old girl who must find her meth-cooking father or lose the house he put up as a bail bond. It's very bleak, but the acting is superb. And the character of Teardrop? He didn't raise a hand in the whole movie, & he still scared the crap out of me.

NOW!

Thought we were dug out but apparently not since I just got stuck. I hate this city and its taxes, weather, etc. I want out to somewhere warmer NOW! - Lisa

Cyrus

We watched 'Cyrus' tonight, a John C. Reilly comedy with a plot that seemed, at first glance, too similar to his awful 'Step Brothers'. No fear; it turned out to be a sweet, mature rom-com. We liked it.

Congrats Aaron!

Best Wishes for his Recovery

Bookreporter.com is reporting that author Vince Flynn has cancer. I wish him well.

A Heck of a Blizzard

When u can no longer distinguish the sidewalk from the street and lawn, & the wind sounds like a Hollywood sound effects team has set up shop outside ur window . . . Well, then it looks like this blizzard will live up to the hype after all

6 ft drifts down the length of my alley, 6-8 foot deep hills the length of the side street to my south, and quite literally the largest snow drift I've ever seen on the side of my house. I doubt we'll get the van out on the road until Friday at the earliest.

Taking a break from my 2nd round of shoveling in the alley. Noting the wonderful grammar of local anchors who in the course of a few minutes said "props to the city" and "don't go nowhere".

Listening to Iron Butterfly and sad that In-A-Gadda-Da-Vidi doesn't hold up as well if you're not 17 and/or stoned.

Bay Viewers - if anyone digs out and is on the road this evening, I would welcome a quick lift to either Walgreens or the grocery store. Thanks!

My Thoughts Exactly LuLu! - Lisa

We finally got out of the alley at a little after nine, after spending hours clawing a path to freedom. That . . . was a lot of snow to shovel. The worst part? My phone, which was in my coat pocket for one of the many soaking-wet rounds of shoveling, was damaged. It still works as a phone, but all the perks that made my life happier - FB, txt, aps, email - are a no-go.

A Blizzard is starting

snow drifts up to the middle of my calves in the alley this morning. Could be worse. Probably will be.

All malls closing @ 5

mps has announced they will close tomorrow. Let the Super Blow blizzard commence.

Catfish

We just finished the documentary 'Catfish'. I really enjoyed it, and I think the title - which stems from an anecdote w/in the film - is a phrase worth remembering.

RED

'RED' was ok, but in the end was little more than cookie cutter action/comedy. What comedic bright spots there were came largely courtesy of Mary Louise Parker.

An Important Quote

It's always too early to quit - Norman Vincent Peale

who needs internet porn when u can watch Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' video? Well done Mrs. Brand, well done. In other news Cold War Kids were pretty darn good.

Life

Zikes. Even the most sedate, productive, happy days can descend into chaos and drama before changing back just as quickly. Life is just a big helping of messy, unpredictable disorder I guess.

Baby Songs

I found our old Baby Songs DVD and to my suprise Smiley was ecstatic. He and LuLu are watching it now, singing and laughing along. Good times

25 Years Ago Today

25 yrs since the Challenger exploded. I didn't see it happen live on TV, but they rolled a TV into our 6th grade classroom and the rest of that day was spent watching the news.

You'd think the anniversary would get more ink, but the nat'l tragedies of the last quarter century - waco, OK city, columbine, 9/11 - seem to make it less impactful on our collective memory.
