Ma Baensch Marinated Herring

My maternal grandmother would eat this every New Year's Eve. I guess there's a tradition that says eating it at midnight will bring good luck for the year , but she seemed to have a genuine affection for it too . Odd , as I don't remember her enjoying this or any fish the rest of the year .

Migration

As what he described as an additional Christmas gift, YaYa's boyfriend paid for both sets of parents to join them at a showing of the new movie Migration this morning.

Migration is the story of a duck family led by an anxious, fear filled father who reluctantly allows his family to leave their home pond and migrate south for the winter. Naturally many problems pop up on their adventure, since that's just another word for trouble in the first place, including a maniacal chef out for their heads.  The movie has a great quip about chefs too; they're apex predators, but they choose to feed their kill to lazier predators.

It's a cute movie, fun but with a genuine character arc, and gorgeous color throughout.

It's worth a watch. Go see it!

RE an online complaint about Little Ceasars

I just said this the other day! We could grab a quick pizza so easy years ago on the way to scouts or soccer or dance lessons and now it's a whole ordeal. Have to do online and even then more often than not it's cancelled or not ready. I frequent all the better private restaurants but still wish you could walk in and grab a Lil Ceasars pizza like u used to be able to!

A New Driver in the House

Today I took Junie down to the DMV in South Milwaukee where the youngest member of Team Slap got her driver's license!

Junie's biggest concerns, at least at the DMV, where that her necklaces would show in the picture (they were twisted) and that the Nirvana sweatshirt would too. I don't understand the concern over the Nirvana, which simply paints her as a young woman of taste.

As you can see her worries were for naught.

Lisa and I have always said that we had to accomplish three things as parents: one that all the kids graduate high school, two that they all get their license, and finally that they all emerge from their teenage years without a child of their own. I am not trying to jinx anything but I think we're going to make it four for four.

Congratulations Junie! Drive safe!
