Junie's First Day at her New Job

Today was also Junie's first day at a local catering company, having left her three year tenure at McDonald's the weekend before. While we had plans elsewhere, Lisa said she was "honored" to be asked to take Junie to work on her first day, so we re-arranged our schedule and dropped her off.

Later, after our movie, we went to pick her up, then had a midnight meal at Denny's so Lisa could get the scoop on all the drama of Junie's first day on the job. By her account, it went very well - she catered a charity auction - and the new job seems to have made her feel very welcome.

Congrats kid!

Football, Flea (Markets) and Free (books)

So our Saturday was jam packed. After some early morning errands we headed over to Thomas More High School, where my cousin's son Isaiah was practicing football - he's #49 - on his 14th birthday no less!

Then  we visited a flea market in the basement of a church. We didn't buy much - not even this Babe Ruth autobiography I remember from high school - but it was fun to look around.

Afterwards we headed down to Junie's high school to stock the Free Little Library, where someone came up and took a pair of books before we even pulled away from the curb!

There was much more to come before the day was through . . .

Joey's Yardarm

After attending a training session in Racine I looked up the "Best Fish Fry" in the area and was directed to Joey's Yardarm by Google.

It was a gorgeous day, so I took a seat on the patio and ordered my meal. $12 for three pieces of cod, fries, rye bread, and coleslaw. What a deal. Now, I found the rye bread a little too soft for my liking, but otherwise, A++.

By the way, they also give you the option of "sand dollar" potatoes, thin sliced potatoes coated in parmesan - if that's your thing.

I hope to return there with Lisa soon.

Real Chili at 1130PM

Sometimes you just need Real Chili. I order the medium marquette with everything (including vinegar) and the lemonade. I'd share a picture but it went down way too quick and easy. Lots of construction at the East Wells location, but worth the walk from where you have to park. Exceptional service! - Lisa

Sawyer at the Salon

Back on the 8th Smiley and I took the dogs to a salon on KK to have their nails trimmed. Alas, aside from the copious amounts of hair they left in my car, only one of the two behaved well enough to actually get their nails done. I'll let you guess which one (and it isn't this one).

At any rate, here are some pics Smiley took.

A few days later, Lulu took Sawyer to his usual salon where they successfully did the trimming.

It Makes A Rough Day at Work a Whole Heck of a Lot Better

Back in late April I finished a case for a young pregnant client and she asked how she could thank me. I told her to just send me a picture of the baby when it was born. A couple minutes ago she held up her end of the bargain and sent me a pic of her newborn :)

NL Central Champs!

Boom baby!

They were predicted  by most experts to finish last or second-to last in the Central this year. Instead? They become the first MLB team to clinch this year, and do it with a 10.5 game lead.

I've been following this team pretty closely all year - due largely to a couple of great games I watched while in the hospital, oddly enough - and I got to see them at AmFam with Junie and our exchange student too.

Having lived through our current 42 year pennant drought, 'm not gonna try and jinx things by predicting November ball, but this is an exciting team to watch.

Go Brew Crew!
