You Can Count on Them

Once again my friends came through for me. The van died at the grocery store, and no one offered a jump. One call to JJ and Lisa, Yaya and the groceries were home; one call to Roy S and he had a guy on the scene, jumping the battery. Half an hour later, I had a new battery and was back on the road. Gracias guys!

F@#k CBS and the ridiculous paranoia over a bad thunderstorm. The first HOUR of my recorded boxing, including the entire Heavyweight bout, was wiped out by weather reports and video of rain. VIDEO OF RAIN!!!!!

Junie and the Bus

me, to LK: You better hope this works, and even if it does just pray I don't throw you under a bus when Mom and Grace get home.

Lauren (very angry): Then I'm going to call the police on you Dad! And if I die Mom will send you to jail!

Me (confused at first) For what, fixing your screwup?! (gets it)  Oh. Get real. It's not a *literal* bus. It's an expression that means I'll rat you out.

LK (blushing) Oh, okay.

Vacation Bible School

The last day of vacation bible school.

I Miss Southgate Mall. I honestly do.

Work

If there is a more mind numbing, poorly paid way to earn a living and squander my talents, outside of assembling widgets, I have yet to find it. I wish I could afford to go to law school full time and resume my life. #bitter #temperTantrum

Goodbye 19 Kids and Counting

RIP 19 Kids and Counting. I understand the decision, but you gave us a lot of years of great TV.

Does RIP stand for rot in prison? Because that's what the brother should be doing right now. - YaYa
To be clear, there's nothing funny about what he's accused of doing. However, the meme, tasteless as it might be, made me smile.

It's True

Go to the store when you look like crap and you're bound to see people you know. - YaYa

The Good and the Bad

From one P.M. Monday until 8 A.M this (Wed.) morning, I managed 3.75 hours of sleep. Shoot me.

OTOH, I woke up this evening from a nap to find that Lisa had made homemade tempura chicken, rice, a crab Rangoon dipping sauce with homemade won-ton chips, and  chow-mein cookies.

I should skip sleeping more often.

The Walker Mural

The side of a building on KK. It's become a little tourist destination. I wasn't the only person to stop and snap a picture.

A Joke

Jesus: "Still on for Thursday?"

Judas: "Yeah, the Last Supper."

Jesus: "The what?"

Judas: "Supper. Normal supper with the fellas."

So we're funding Iran now?

Ugh. People on FB are celebrating saving a few cents on gas, and ignoring the fact that we just cut a NUCLEAR deal with Iran in order to accomplish this great feat.

That's Iran, the Western hating, anti-Semitic nation that's ignored endless sanctions in the past but, we're told, will surely behave *this time*.

Any statement saying this is a wise or necessary deal is just smoke up your a*s.

Here's hoping it isn't radioactive too.

Naturally.

While I was asleep Junie was using my phone to play a game. By the time I woke up she was gone to Bible school and the phone was AWOL. A search of the van and home came up with nothing. A call to the school revealed where she left it: on the fencepost by the trampoline. Naturally. Where else would you leave a smartphone?

PT

Physical therapy this morning was a stationary bike, a leg press machine, and a hip raise machine. "So basically this is a gym membership at 30 times the cost?" I told the therapist.

GRRRRR

Originally I was miffed at FB for spoiling last weekend's fight card  (my fault - I have a half dozen boxing sites on here) but since the kids, in their wisdom, deleted it to record yet another episode of "Dog with a Blog" and "Jessie" BEFORE i GOT TO WATCH  THE FIGHT, I guess I should learn to embrace the spoilers. Thank Goodness the kids pay for the cable and the electricity, or I might feel put out.

Um, what now?

My nieces cat, shaved south of the neck to resemble a lion.

A/C

Anybody got an old window A/C they are willing to part with? My niece Caitlin Anne is melting in her new digs.

update: Lisa and I just got home from delivering and installing the new (to her) A/C for my niece. Given that her flat was an oven, I imagine she's genuinely as grateful as she seemed. Nice flat, horrible neighborhood. As an aside, her stairs reminded me of Lisa's back on 8th street. Ah, memories. Lisa and I had good times on those stairs :)

Normalcy

Sauerkraut and potatoes in the oven, YaYa asking me for money, Junie roller skating in the house, Smiley on his tablet . . . .ahhhh, normalcy.

Vacation Bible School

The youngest two just walked in the door from the first day of Vacation Bible School over at Oak Creek Assembly of God. They enjoyed it and won't stop chatting about it, and I'm glad. I wish it was a Catholic program, I'm not going to lie, but I'm pragmatic enough to know that a knowledge of Jesus is a good thing in any form.

Pen Pals

I just dropped $33 in international postage for pen pal packages for LuLu and YaYa. I support the hobby, as I do believe in fostering goodwill across borders, and I want it to continue. But at the very least, the girls will have to fill out their own customs forms going forward, b/c THAT was a pill, and the packages (not letters) will have to be more infrequent. :)

FYI

Someone just asked me what was up with BLANK, and is our friendship at a crossroads (not their words) because we are "arguing" on FB. I'm not arguing, I'm debating, and I debate honestly, without adding superfluous comments just to tweak someone's nose. *unless I add that that was the intent. I've never deleted or unfollowed anyone for their views, with the exception of a virulent anti-vaccination zealot who made the sun rising in the East an example of a big Pharm plot - and hell, I blocked her largely because she was a Seahawks fan (seriously)! So, please, put any concerns to rest (at least on my end).
