Smiley's New Hairstyle

This is how a paranoid mind works. A few days before the New Year I saw Smiley come down the stairs looking like this:

and instead of thinking "someone cut his hair!", which would be logical, I instead thought "Oh man, I hope he doesn't have some weird disease where he goes bald young. Oh God that would be awful for him!"

A moment later it dawned on me that, like his sisters before him, he had taken a scissors and walloped his own locks. Only with his buzz cut that meant he tread awful close to the scalp. It's a wonder he didn't break the skin.

As Smiley still can't talk, I asked the girls if they knew what happened. Both LuLu and YaYa admitted to being in the room when he did it but 'didn't notice' or stated 'it wasn't my fault'.

No one lifted a finger to stop him, but I guess that's par for the course with this bunch.

Lisa wanted to buzz it even before a recent social outing, but I stopped her. "Leave it," I said. "At least I'll have a topic of conversation to work with."

  1. Happy New Year Dan. I hope that the slope is steep in the upward direction for you this year (meaning things are improving rapidly, not that you have a steep hill to climp:o)

Always an adventure reading your entries, but the last picture is quite a booger LOL.

  2. How funny that Ken said it was always an adventure to read you, because my comment was going to be, "Well, at least it's always an adventure there!" LOL

I hope the new year brings you good things, if I haven't said that already!

  4. Ah Smiley! I remember the episode with my stepdaughter and son and a pair of scissors! I think it's a standard childhood antic-good thing Smiley's scalp is intact.
Good things to all the Slapinions gang this New Year! Leigh

  5. LOL...it happens. At least little boys look good with buzz cuts, although this isn't the ideal time of year for one. :)

    XOXO

  6. Well I woudn't say that this is the most handsome photo we have seen of Smiley !! What a lad he is..mind you the girls were just as bad not doing anything. I remeber my niece who had long hair arriving one morning with a wedge taken out of her beautiful hair...when questioned her older sister Jacqueline said she had heard Mum say they had no money and would have to find some to have their hair cut...so bless her she took to doing the job for her !! She said it was Beth's blame for moving !!!
Glad you had a good Xmas. I am praying for all good things for you all in the comming year.
Much Love to you all Sybil x

  7. Glad to see Smiley is living up to the bench mark. My boy was 6 before he took the hedge shears to his locks. I was so mad I cut it to the scalp with scissors.

My daughter and her baby-sitter's daughter did a mutual haircut when they were 2 and 3 respectively. I didn't realize the extent of the "damage" until swim class that evening and hunks of hair came floating out.
