Island Jam

A couple days ago Lisa, her friend and I visited Island Jam, a Caribbean restaurant in South Milwaukee.

As you can see,  it is not a formal experience. There are few things Lisa detests more than eating with plastic utensils.  There are few things I detest more than being served a can of soda at restaurant prices. They had both.

BUT  . . .

THE FOOD!

I'm not saying it was my favorite dish ever.  Caribbean fare isn't my go-to. But I can't deny that the jerk chicken was tender and flavorful, and the sides of rice and cabbage,  were plentiful and tasty.

(Other options: oxtail, goat, and plantains).

In short: buy the food,  but eat it as take-out.

The Wall Art

This plaster wall is the worst....thanks Eric for patience and Dan for my new pretty key! - Lisa

Huckle Da Berry

Matlock's System by Reginald Hill

This is an early dystopian work by Reginald Hill, a writer best known for mystery novels.

In the near future everyone in the UK has been fitted with a device that stops their heart at an age decided by the government, and based on the economic state of that year's budget. Does it sound morally wrong and ripe for abuse? Yes.  You know who thinks so too? Matlock, the former politician who thought it up and got it enacted,  but who now campaigns against it,  in near anonymity.

But it seems like someone remembers Matlock after all,  because an awful lot of important people are suddenly looking for him . . .

I enjoyed the novel and think Hill did a good job of world- building,  and even 50 years after it's publication it has something to say about the state of our world.

I recommend it.

Sleepy Huck

Dinner at Palomino's

Last night Lisa and I dined at Palamino's, a restaurant/ bar in Milwaukee's Bay View neighborhood. We split a bowl of chili and a pulled pork sandwich plate.

I found the chili very appetizing, if a little sweet,  but thought the cornbread was too dry. Lisa, on the other hand enjoyed the cornbread - a first in my memory - but wasn't thrilled with the chili.

We both enjoyed the large (and messy!) sandwich and the ample portion of fries.

We'd definitely eat there again.

Exploring AZ

Our two oldest beauties exploring AZ on spring break.

Sawyer

We adopted a brother for Huckleberry (on March 4th) and named him Sawyer, iykuk. They say he's 2yo but his paws and behavior say puppy all day. Here's a picture of him...in movement as usual!  - Lisa

RIP William Hurt

Oscar winner William Hurt has passed of prostrate cancer, age 71. I remember him best from "Children of a Lesser God," but the kids probably know him from his appearances in the Avengers movies. RIP
