D'Oh!

Found the missing car keys - on the back window of that very car.

An Argument in Class

In my law seminar the professor helpfully compared Republicans to Joe McCarthy and the Salem Witch trial accusers. A bevy of liberal classmates jumped on that train, with one even bragging about her father literally urinating on McCarthy's grave. IDC what politician you are, I can't conceive of pissing on your grave. Disrespectful and boorish. So I opened my mouth, and for the next forty minutes it was heated and uncomfortable. As I got into the elevator afterwards a classmate said "Dude, that was AWESOME!" but it didn't feel "awesome" - it felt like every conservative paranoid fantasy about the liberal academia presented itself at my front door. Ugh, that class SUCKS.

Willie McCovey

RIP to the great Giants slugger. As he was a little before my time I know his name best because of McCovey Cove, the water outside of the Giant's park that became home to many of Barry Bonds' home runs.

So I Guess Boston Won the World Series or Something. I Don't Know.

Even when Boston wins it all they wish and pray they were Yankees. Sad, when you think about it. Oh well.  Just under two decades of consecutive WS titles and you'll catch up boys.

Bride of Violence

This sucked. I don't care if it's based on a Lawrence Block story or that he produced it. I don't care that some nutty site found it intellectually rewarding. It SUCKED.

Not feeling great today . .

God's recipe for my day: Find a large imaginary skewer, say the size of a curtain rod. Stab into the right hip. Apply pressure, pushing said skewer completely through the beltline and out the left hip. Attach marionette strings to both ends. Make Dan twist and screech in pain like Pinocchio set aflame. Occasionally ease up, then repeat.

Indeed, I Do

Once again,  I thank God for the Founding Fathers and the 1st Amendment.

Scary

Yesterday I saw several posts, on both Facebook and Instagram, predicting that if the fake mailbombs and migrant caravan didn't get enough attention here in the runup to the election, "they" would arrange a mass shooting. Today, Pittsburgh. I'm genuinely a little bit unnerved.

The Haunting of Hill House

I found this to be a great,  masterfully written horror series. It utterly abandons its source material but still manages to embrace and build upon Jackson's world.  It is a little prone to wordy monologues, and I was mildly disappointed in the finale,  because *SPOILER* it leaves Olivia a twisted,  eternal victim, a child killer without redemption **END SPOILER** but I'd still grade it an A+

Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary Dan. Beating the odds through the good bad and ugly and trying to keep our sense of humor while we do it. My biggest laughs have always been with you by my side.  Xoxoxo  - Lisa

This is Great

Good for the Bucks. OTOH the law school perimeter is littered with bird corpses, and it's new enough and expensive enough that the design should have addressed the issue.

The Nun

Lisa and I saw this last night in the theater

. I thought it was wicked good, and genuinely scary. Lisa was less enthusiastic but still liked it.

At the Milwaukee Public Museum Butterfly Exhibit

Birthday Flowers

Thanks for the birthday flowers Dan - Lisa

Tom Hooper

Awwww

Tom Hooper was a mainstay on Channel 6 here in Milwaukee. He hosted the segment "Contact 6" during the news, addressing local consumer compalints and helping people get the refund or product they were entitled to in the first place. His daily segment helped thousands of people directly, and led to changes in the law that helped thousands, if not millions, more.

My favorite memory was of one of the last times he hosted the segment before he retired in 1999. An elderly woman called complaining that her new garbage dumpster had been delivered with a manufacturing error; the lid woulnd't open. Hooper came out, walked to the far side of the dumpster, and opened it easily; the dumpster worked fine, but it had been put in facing the wrong way. Hooper got the company out to correct the placement.

RIP to a Milwaukee legend, age 85

The Happytime Murders

I went to see this with Yaya at the Showtime cinema. Rarely have I seen a worse film outside of a Mystery Science Theater episode. Just a questionable use of resources, both for the filmmaker and the viewer.

I Couldn't Resist

The New Porch Light

It took me 3x as long today as it should have, but in the end it got done. Ladies and gents, our new porch light.

Irresponsible

WISN 12 started the 10 o'clock news by saying there was a missing and endangered girl, a situation complicated by a problem with the state's Amber Alert system . . . And then promptly cut to Packers coverage.  Then Brewers coverage.  Oh, and THEN the endangered girl.  SMFH. #GetYourPrioritiesRight

Sad to See

Jim Taylor

RIP to the Packers great, a fullback who held the team rushing record for an amazing 43 years.

Free

I need to get rid of a 3 piece queen size headboard asap. Its brown tufted leather, no hardware as it attaches to the wall.  Disclaimer: attaching the three pieces so they are level requires some patience and finesse. If you or someone you know needs a beautiful headboard... let me know.  We are only replacing because we were gifted another one that fits our decor more.  - Lisa

Oh Boy!

Oh boy, my hairs curly today!

SMH

The BBC just ran an article urging British citizens to stop drinking their own urine. Ladies and Gentlemen, the former rulers of the world.

The 13th Doctor

RE: the new Doctor Who. I watched the premiere. Jodie was fine, a bit of an over-actor, but nothing to bash (or praise) there on the basis of  one episode. I liked that they made the  gender change a non-issue so far, treating it like par for the course rather than some SJW  "win." I hope that continues. The story was fine, and I'm glad they didn't trot out any of the tired old baddies, but yo, that wasn't Who. In tone, in cinematography, in deaths,  in the lack of titles, music, and a Tardis, it felt more Torchwood or one of the other spinoffs than proper Who. A new era, a new showrunner at the helm, and apparently a bigger budget - yeah, I get all that - but still. Anyway, I'd grade it a B.

The FEMA Test

Me, after the FEMA Test

And legitimate kudos to #NBCNightlyNews, who reported objectively on the record employment levels in the US (a 49 year unemployment low), and the booming economy. I didn't think the MSM had it in 'em.
