Lincoln's Birthday

My law school class is celebrating Lincoln's birthday with treats, and I came up with a way to tie my contribution into Ole Abe. Can anyone (non classmate's) figure out the connection?

answer: Simpson's donuts; you know, from Springfield?

Douglas-Tyson

Showing Junie  History. What a beautiful ninth round. I remember my joy at seeing Buster bounce back from his 8th round knockdown, and I feel the same exhilaration now. Play this fight at my funeral baby.

The Final Days by Woodward and Bernstein

In between the readings for school, I'm chipping away at Woodward and Bernstein's "The Final Days", the tragic tale of Nixon's last 100 days in office. Lisa bought me an old hardcover copy at a thrift store, and so far I'm loving it.

A New Button

This souvenir of the 1970 Oregon governor's race arrived in the mail today. 🙂

ISO

Okay, folks, I can't believe I forgot to put this out here sooner. LuLu and I would like to do the Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics this weekend, but that requires a $75 donation apiece/$150 for the two of us. So I'm soliciting sponsors.

Any amount is appreciated, BUT if you donate $20 or more to this worthy cause I will (drum roll) provide you with a personally autographed 4"x6" wet-t-shirt pic of me from the big event! Yes,me! You know you want to see it!
Now a few caveats:
1. I may not come close to the fundraising goal, in which case I will thank everyone for their efforts, decline the funds, and wait for next year
2. I may chicken out, in which case I will thank everyone and decline the funds
3. I may just take your money and spend it on loose women and cheap liquor.
I'm leaning towards the 3rd option, if I'm being honest.
Ok, let me know if you're interested in sponsoring us!
Thanks!

25 years ago today I sat in my parent's living room watching boxing on HBO. Mike Tyson was fighting in Tokyo and I remember them showing clips of him chasing pigeons in the streets. Then they ran a segment on Buster Douglas. When they mentioned that his mom had just died I thought to myself that with that driving him he had a chance. Maybe. Just maybe.

And then it happened.
Round after round Tyson's brilliance dimmed under Douglas's assault. When the champ finally hit the canvas I literally screamed for joy, earning the wrath of my parents.
25 years ago today. Damn I'm getting old.
Also that day Nelson Mandela was released from prison after nearly three decades. That was certainly a more important event for the world as a whole, but it's the Tyson fight that has stayed with me for the last quarter century.

The Bachelor

A double elimination on a 2 on 1 date? Lisa is literally applauding #TheBachelor 's decision to eliminate Kelsey. I think the woman provided a welcome dose of crazy to the show and he was a fool for pulling the trigger. #dislike

Hot Lava!

Visiting my Ma at St Lukes with Smiley and Junie, and the white floor tiles are hot lava!

The Runner Up

NOT the kitty we adopted, but the runner up, Polaris. Too shy for our clan.

Summer Plans

We are hard at work planning the kids' summer after a lunch date (note: my legal writing prof would have me write it as "kids's" but that's redonk)

Introducing our new cat, Custard!!!

Our new pet, a one eyed 2 year old female that has been transferred from a humane society near Reedsville. It's our second one eyed cat , although this one actually had it removed ,while GusGus just lacks the use of one of his.

it was the eye that sold me on her. We looked at a couple others but it was always going to be her.
As usual the adoption process took forever, but Junie and LuLu held up well. I think the society makes you wait to see if you crack. If you don't they figure you'll keep your cool with the pet.
I feel kind of guilty because my friend Fred has a cat he needs to part with but his cat ventures outside and my nerves just can't handle that, as Team Slap can attest.
The Humane Society named the cat Baby Girl but Junie has changed the name to Custard. I'm not sure that's a final decision.
Welcome cat to the circus that is #TeamSlap!

Picking up Lisa from a rest area here in Lomira after her weekend up north. Always wanted to pick up a date at a rest area. Scratch one from the bucket list!

Lu Goes Shopping!

I took LuLu shopping with the money she earned shoveling. She bought two pairs of sneakers, 3 hair clips, and an 8 pack of Powerade.

A TV for the Upstairs Hall!

The new (to us) TV that now hangs in the kid's hallway. Promise kept ya mutts. Thanks go to Socialist for mounting the hardware.

A Convo

Me: The Packers won the Super Bowl four years ago today.

Socialist: I know, I saw it when you posted it. I'm on Facebook now, I see all the things that run through your head.
Me: Kinda sad in there, isn't it?
Socialist: Pretty much, yeah.

A Skype call with LuLu!

My first ever Skype call!

VaguePosting

Kudos and thanks to Tre. I don't know if it takes a village to raise a kid, but it helps to have a nosy Godfather.
