September 11th 2022
A rainy, icky September 11th here in Milwaukee. The Packers are getting schooled by the Vikings, I'm very down (unrelated), but I'm trying to turn my frown upside down.
I'm failing, but I'm trying.
The day started out pretty well, with a visit to a local Asian grocery store with Smiley, Lisa, and Dem.
But since then it's just been blah. I did prep some lunches for the week and I may make spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, so i haven't been idle. Just . . off.
Not the worst 9/11 of my lifetime, thank God. For that I'm grateful.

The 2022 BVCC Food Pantry Walk
So today was the annual 2.6 mile charity walk for the local food pantry. While we were regular attendees at the event for years, we skipped it 2019 (Lisa and the kids had free tickets for Great America), then 2020 went ixnay because of that whole pandemic, and I don't even remember it being held last year.
Anywho, this year's walk was discovered at pretty much the last minute so Lu, Junie, and Lisa were AWOL at work, my friend Tre couldn't make it on short notice, and Smiley is 24 hours removed from minor leg surgery so he had to sit it out. Boo.
But Yaya and her boyfriend showed, and I was pleased to bring our two exchange students along!
Along the route I saw a baby snapping turtle on the sidewalk and we stopped for some pics before I carried it over to the edge of a nearby pond.
Alas, twas not our most successful walk. It was a hot day, and newsflash for those of us new to having a shaved head: hair insulates. It got mighty hot up top my noggin.
Then Dem, who had not brought sneakers to the US and was walking in boots (my bad for not noticing before the walk) began to complain of pain in his feet and was visibly uncomfortable. So I called Smiley who came to pick him up, and Rebeca asked to go too soooo... that was it.
None-the-less, I'm glad we did it and I want to return next year
i Wish
i just wish i could skip forward to five years from now and be financially stableeeee - Lulu

30 Years Ago Today
Thirty years ago today Robin Yount notched his 3000th hit with a seventh inning single off Jose Mesa. The game, believe it or not, wasn't even televised! Small market baseball, ladies and gentlemen, was a different breed.
I was at the game with my sister Katie and I remember jumping to my feet, just like everyone else in County Stadium, and applauding until my hands ached. What a moment!
Later, I picked up a Yount t-shirt for my friend Tre. He'd asked me to grab one for him in class that morning, and I took it as a sign that our newly reconnected friendship was growing.
A few weeks later my Dad and I attended a game where Robin was honored by the team with a hardcover book about the accomplishment. Scalpers had bought up the tickets and we had to give away our books to them in exchange for admittance. Why the Brewers allowed this nonsense right in front of their staff still boggles the mind.
One more fact: unbeknownst to me, my future wife was in attendance at the 3000th hit game too.

Long Live The King
Charles has officially ascended to the crown. He is now King Charles III and his wife Camilla is Queen Consort.
Here is his statement in full:
The Queen has Died :(
Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch in British history, has passed away at 96.
She's been a fixture of my world for all 48 years of my life, and I greatly admired her for the strength and stability that were her hallmark. My daughter Lu has long counted herself as a BIG fan - her 17th birthday party theme was Queen Elizabeth II!
She will be missed.
And now, for the first time in almost 3/4th of a century:
God Save the King.

Bernard Shaw, CNN's first chief anchor, who I remember from his reporting in the Gulf War, has died at 82.

Sunday Nights Everything Closes Here
just sat in line for mcdonald’s because nothing else is open. - LuLu
I seriously will go to hell for mouring the loss of all night walmart and all night dennys and gw so badly. I know covid loss of life greater but this loss in my nighttime routine and freedom is heartbreaking to me. Like ....I met my husband at a gw at 3am!!!. The ability to all night shop walmart or hit dennys at 3 am is something I've been able to do my WHOLE life. These are unprecedented times...and I really hate it. So much hate. - Lisa
I will say the chicken nuggies tasted divine after such a crazy wait plus we went to at least 4 places that were all closed before mcdonalds tooo. Nightmarish fr. We did get "angel numbers" tho.

Doggo #1
Here are some pictures from March. IIRC, he had irritated his eye 'rassling with Sawyer, so excuse the bloodshot eye.
True Crime Fans
I think some true crime fans are unable to identify the real devastation caused by some of these people that y’all fawn over. An interest in true crime shouldn’t overrule basic human decency.
It makes me sick to see people comment “one of my favorite serial killers” under the new Dahmer movie posts like…. Y’all. Have some tact.
- YaYa
people simping over ted bundy and saying they wouldn’t mind being killed by him😬. like what. imagine having absolutely no self awareness to what your words mean - LuLu

Jerry Allison
Jerry Allison, good friend of Buddy Holly and drummer of The Crickets, died today at the age of 82.
I saw The Crickets perform at the 1995 Wisconsin State Fair, although I don't remember the lineup of the band on that tour. I wish I'd thought to stick around for some autographs.
RIP Jerry, and say hello to Buddy for us all.
