New Rules

Good. Adios shift, you sucked.

30 Years Ago Today

Thirty years ago today Robin Yount notched his 3000th hit with a seventh inning single off Jose Mesa. The game, believe it or not, wasn't even televised! Small market baseball, ladies and gentlemen, was a different breed.

I was at the game with my sister Katie and I remember jumping to my feet, just like everyone else in County Stadium, and applauding until my hands ached. What a moment!

Later, I picked up a Yount t-shirt for my friend Tre.  He'd asked me to grab one for him in class that morning, and I took it as a sign that our newly reconnected friendship was growing.

A few weeks later my Dad and I attended a game where Robin was honored by the team with a hardcover book about the accomplishment. Scalpers had bought up the tickets and we had to give away our books to them in exchange for admittance. Why the Brewers allowed this nonsense right in front of their staff still boggles the mind.

One more fact: unbeknownst to me, my future wife was in attendance at the 3000th hit game too.

Long Live The King

Charles has officially ascended to the crown. He is now King Charles III and his wife Camilla is Queen Consort.

Here is his statement in full:

The Queen has Died :(

Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch in British history, has passed away at 96.

She's been a fixture of my world for all 48 years of my life, and I greatly admired her for the strength and stability that were her hallmark.  My daughter Lu has long counted herself as a BIG fan -  her 17th birthday party theme was Queen Elizabeth II!

She will be missed.

And now, for the first time in almost 3/4th of a century:

God Save the King.

RIP my fav royal - Lulu

Sunday Nights Everything Closes Here

just sat in line for mcdonald’s because nothing else is open. - LuLu

I seriously will go to hell for mouring the loss of all night walmart and all night dennys and gw so badly. I know covid loss of life greater but this loss in my nighttime routine and freedom is heartbreaking to me. Like ....I met my husband at a gw at 3am!!!. The ability to all night shop walmart or hit dennys at 3 am is something I've been able to do my WHOLE life. These are unprecedented times...and I really hate it. So much hate.  - Lisa

I will say the chicken nuggies tasted divine after such a crazy wait plus we went to at least 4 places that were all closed before mcdonalds tooo. Nightmarish fr. We did get "angel numbers" tho.

Doggo #1

Here are some pictures from March. IIRC, he had irritated his eye 'rassling with Sawyer, so excuse the bloodshot eye.

True Crime Fans

I think some true crime fans are unable to identify the real devastation caused by some of these people that y’all fawn over. An interest in true crime shouldn’t overrule basic human decency.

It makes me sick to see people comment “one of my favorite serial killers” under the new Dahmer movie posts like…. Y’all. Have some tact.

Jerry Allison

Jerry Allison, good friend of Buddy Holly and drummer of The Crickets, died today at the age of 82.

I saw The Crickets perform at the 1995 Wisconsin State Fair, although I don't remember the lineup of the band on that tour. I wish I'd thought to stick around for some autographs.

RIP Jerry, and say hello to Buddy for us all.

The Adam Project

So late last month I  watched the latest Ryan Reynolds Netflix film, The Adam Project. It's about a time traveler who goes back in time and works with his 12 year old self to prevent the death of his wife in the far future.

It sounds, from that write-up, pretty heavy.

Please

It's a goofy movie that doesn't even attempt to keep to a consistent take on time travel or its consequences, despite all the many times the characters openly whine about not changing history. And Ryan Reynolds once again, plays himself. His acting range has all the breadth of a flea's waistline.

That said, I liked it.

Why? Because Ryan Reynolds playing himself is a pretty interesting character, the 12 year old version of himself was a laugh out loud hit, and I dig time travel.

So, assuming you already pay for a Netflix subscription, watch it. :)

Usyk-Joshua 2

I sat down on my patio on this gorgeous August day, my two doggos underfoot, and watched the recent Uskyk-Joshua rematch for the heavyweight crown.

Here's how I scored it. Honestly, I think I was a bit generous in giving Joshua anything but the 8th and 9th rounds.

In real life, the official scorecards were 116-112  and 115-113 for the Ukrainian, and Glen Feldman, incredulously,  scored it 115-113 for Joshua. That man either needs glasses or some professional ethics.

This fight will, however, be forever remembered not for the action in the ring, but for Anthony Joshua's childish reaction to losing. He tossed the belts out of the ring, told Usyk “You ain’t big, you ain’t skilled, you’re not strong, how did you beat me?”, then (apparently realizing how he much of a doofus he was being) he overcompensated with a long  complimentary speech.

Cringe.

Now, will we see Usyk-Fury? I don't know, but it would be a doozy.

Lunch at Omnicron

Here's a few rather pointless shots from a lunch I had with LuLu yesterday.  Points for remaining in business even while named after a pandemic variant, and for the perfectly done eggs over medium. Yum.

Yes, it was lunch. Yes, we still each ordered breakfast.  Yes, after refusing to eat any egg not scrambled or hard boiled for some 46 or 47 years, I have in recent times widened my repertoire. Yes, it was too much food for a person to consume in one sitting.  And yes, I ate every bite.
